Flop can I ask a specific question? I just fabbed and welded in 2 new patch pannels on my olds but I am assuming the heat has caused the body and panel to buckle a bit at the seam where I welded, how do I fix this?? I ask you because it appears you are a sheet metal God!

 

to the sandblaster it went on the snowiest day of the year haha.

I am didnt mean to hijack this but you guys started talk about patch panels and I had to show you these.These are from Mikes A Fordable parts.I need some lower cowl patch panels a a 28 cowl that need help..I was told these would fit perfect....LMAO..what did I miss in the description..? I wonder if I could have made them work..??? I think not...

 

started messing with the first set of fenders for a guy in ohio.

he put patches in and wanted them welded up well that didnt work out to well i put my own in.

this was the way i got the fenders



out with the new in with the newer







about 3 more inches to go

How do you align the top sides before welding ?
I now can weld gauge 22 decently , but make holes while grinding ...
Is there a recipe ?
I have access to black cats , chicken blood and garlic , if this may help .

havent touched the 50 ray no time.

fine by me chop top kid.let me know when you are free.

i dont know how i align them really just make the patch fit then tack it in.
22 gauge is your problem nali. waaay to thin for anything besides flashing for your house roof. its almost like working with tin foil. i use 18 gauge for everything. 16 for heavier bracing.

finished up the first set of fenders







can figure out why these holes were here





small patch





a small tear where the fender support goes



took out the reinforcement thing by drill 2 spot welds clean up the rust and hit it with weld thru primer





a tear on the edge of the fender







a new reinforcement bracket for the fender where it meets the running board
again both hit with weld thru primer







one more full set to go!

 

broken motor mount. guess 80 or so yeras of service took its toll.







these fenders looked killer until i went to start on filling the old taillight holes





ohhhh its so nice of you to plastic up both sides of the fender to hide some mess



a little hammer and dolly work to get thing baack to normal before cutting out the area with the holes.

Do always work your metal from one side to the other finsihing as you go?

What are you using to shrink the metal that was distorted on the heavily bondoded fender

always work from side to side rcnut. why? i dont know.to me it seems it always allows a little outlet to the shrink and stretch of the metal.am i right? i dont kno that either. i stick to what works well for me. people say i use to much rod weld to hot etc but this is the way i have good results. as for shrinking didnt really do much i brought up the low spots with a hammer and dolly and hit the whole thing with a file and thats the way she came out.

you guys are probably sick of all this model a sheetmetal by now sorry for the uninteresting posts as of late.
