EMS ROCKERS- Why are Ovals not cut out/

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fordstandard, Feb 26, 2011.

  1. QUESTION- Does it matter if ovals are cut out OR not a big deal?

Am I to cut them out OR just leave them alone?

Not a big deal. In fact, I would prefer that they are not cut out. Provides more rigidity. Sill plate hides it all.

  3. Is it for drainage of some sort ?

For- Water from ? To go ?

Its a stiffener, makes the part stronger. With the sill plate on, no water should be getting in there, so no need for drainage.

Ive seen people cut them out. Not a major job. Im gonna cut mine out and pump some rust proofing in once its finished. Pays to note that those rockers are 1/8 inch longer than the originals.:)

it was for access for assembly workers, paint and to hang on the conveyer

not all features of a car are for looks or performance sometimes they are for assembly line issue

I had just the same idea than you, rust protection spraying is a lot easier when they are open.
I cut mine open before welding them.I've planned to buy new scuff plates,so there wont go any crap in rockers when the scuff plates are bolted on..

So before this takes a turn for the worse, let me just say I am glad there is a company out there that actually offers chevy steel! I will pm you some pics tomorrow to show you the cuts I had to make. And as soon as the tail pan I need drops to a third of its current price I will be the first to order one! haha

The shoebox EMS rockers are an 1/8 inch longer than the Ford originals. I have unstitched the originals and sat them side by side. The overall length is the same but the length below the door area is different by 1/8. The pic shows the difference. It doesnt seem like much but it will be enough to bring on the old WTF....when trying to line things up! The longer area is where the front of the door and rear of the fender need to line up.
I can get better pics if required.

I installed EMS rockers as well and mine were about 1/8" too long. Heard this from a few other people as well.

I used them on my car and they were to long and had to be shortened to fit.

i will look into this. but if the rocker is to long? would it be easier to place the front of the rocker in the correct location and cut the extra off the back where it meets with the 1/4 and butt weld it there instead of tying to rework
    the front?
