Update! Finished paint & body in November. Doing interior now.

 

Looks sweet! How long did it take?

 

Bought in 06, did frame, drive train, suspension, bushings, brakes, column and gauges in about 10 months, which made it road worthy. Enjoyed it as I drove the hell out of it for four years during which I painted the interior and roof, fixed all the metal that needed attention like the eyebrows, floors and rockers. The final paint and body took about 4 months ending this past November. I'm now in the middle of upholstery. Should be done in a few months. I'm also considering adding more graphics to the roof. A lot of work, time...and moola!

 

I haven't checked this thread out in a while. Wow, what a bunch of bad ass new posts, love the New Yorker, 61 Ford, siver 55 chevy, well hell, I love em all!! Cool stuff folks. That black Ford from Sweden is extra awesome!! Thanx Dudes and dudettes ~sololobo~ Have to show my two babies again.

I posted pics of ours elsewhere on this forum but could let this thread go unanswered...

Bought this from the 2nd owner in Northern California, and the car has seen very little use. Always a California car, original worn paint and no rust.

We have given this car a lot of love and elbow-grease in the ten months we've had it.
Recent upgrades include:
Power front disc brakes, big booster
Rebuilt stock front end (manual steering)
Lowered springs
Bilstein shocks/oversize sway bars.
Replaced 3rd member gear with 3:36 from a 57 belair w/3spd auto.
Complete new custom interior, including window-felts and weatherstripping, new cargo-mat kit over refresh of wood. (where needed, original mat on the back of 2nd seat is original and sweet.)
Dynomat firewall to tailgate & new carpeting.
New cooling system
Tires/wheels

Everything works on this car except the cigarette lighter. She has been an awesome family member and has been running well in mainstream Los Angeles traffic with the original drive-train, 265 Powerglide, vintage glasspacks, etc.
My wife and I found a killer deal on this engine so we went for it. My concept was to stockpile it while I amass other parts and resources for the swap over a period of time.

The car decided on the timing when the head gasket blew earlier this week, so now the time has come for a visit to the shop for the drivetrain swap.

Putting in our built 350 (4-bolt 1971 Camaro/Corvette block)
700r4 trans.

Awesome integrety and vibe on this fine car, and she is a very agreeable partner, even to the point where I was able to "steam" it 25 miles home in L.A. traffic with the blown head gasket. (3 radiators full of water went through, kind of like the boiler on the Carpathia)

We plan to continue improving the car while using it as a fun and easy-to-use daily driver, (and try not to do anything silly that might compromise her spirit and integrity going forward.)

I will post pictures of the completed swap soon.

By the way, I just perused these pictures and noticed how much my kids have grown in this year since we had this rig! Even on larger sized bikes!

The pic with the kids on the roof says it all. It's great to see a wagon being used as it was intended - a family hauler.
