Howdy Folks! My Lady "BlayneA" picked up this Bad Boy today, 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix ...... 389 , 8 Lug. Drove it and seems to be a good canidate for a fluff and buff. Wondering what we need to do about the 14" rim. I would be happy to convert it to 15" and keep the 8 lug but not for $200.00 each wheel. Any sugestions? So far the rear drums seem to be good but I wont know the shape of them till I take them to the machine shop and have them checked for oversized. If they are good I might be interested in selling the 8 lug stuff and converting them to 5 lug and ASTROS. She is very happy to have this in the garage , and I hope the rest of the stable play's nice with it. I am from a strong MOPAR background and this is all foreign to me. Thank You Cody "HOTRODRUBBER" Adams Adams Hot Rod Rubber / HURST RACING TIRES
I really dig that dark blue/purple colour (anyone know what its called? I'd really appreciate it), I'd keep it. I've always like those early Grand Prix's, they have presence.
When I read the title of your post, I thought said "My Womans new BREAST..." and was dissapointed with the pictures, even tho I've always lusted for a '63 GP!
I don't remember what Pontiac called it,but on a Chevy,it was Danube Blue. Under certain street lights at night it really looked purple.
Treat that (slim jim) transmission as if it was made from gold (soft and expensive) because it is! Depending on starter mounting you may consider a 2004R or a bigger tranny tunnel for a 700R4 or later HD trans. I like the 2004R's and so did Buick in their turbo'd cars. We took in a '62 Bonneville 2 door hardtop last week, Boss Man can't decide wheather to sell or sit on it. Scrap metal business is getting barn finds from kids who's Daddy's have recently died who would not part with vehicles when they were alive but kids just want quick cash.
Very nice find, and car.....Always loved those 8 lug wheels... ! I would leave the 14" wheels on it..... Keep us posted ....
Hey, Got her in Oregon City, From a guy that has had her since early 80's. He was driving her to and from work until about '95. Its been sitting for a few years, tinkered with here and there. But Runs, Drives, and sounds strong. She is getting a much needed deep cleaning next weekend and then some new tires! Cody and I will keep you all posted! Thanks for the words. And Yes I do have big Breast's! Lucky Cody!!!! ~Blayne
...cars and tits...what a combo! sorry I couldn't resist <grinz> Look forward to seeing your new girl all dolled up!
15" (and I believe larger ones) 8 lug wheels are available. This would get you in the right direction. You would use the existing aluminum centers/brakes. http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/showthread.php?t=651232&highlight=8+lug+15%22
That kills me a little bit inside when a kid sells their dad's project that he enjoyed so much for scrap. That poncho looks like a sweet project by the way, man. Keep er' blue
I just bought a 63 Grand Prix and looking to take off the 8 lug rims and put standard 5 lugs on her. Parts or part numbers would be greatly appreciated to help me do this swap
The rears just unbolt 8 lug drums from axles and replace with standard drums. Front u should put disc brakes on. You can get a kit from Scarebird. Has a website and hes on here.
Good luck, my Pop had a new gold one in 63. I use to drive it to high school & smoked the tires quite often !
