Been a while since I started a post. Since then, I managed to sell my 48 to a nice gentlemen in Germany this past November, started a new job closer to home right before Christmas, and last, purchased this 54 Chevy Hardtop 2 weeks ago. The missus has been really helpful with this build as she was the one that spotted it and wanting to take it home from NV. Teardown of the car has been fair so far just lots and lots of antique smelling desert dust that is now finding its way in my clothes and the entrance from the garage to the kitchen. Aside from the normal dings, This car is really solid, not a pinhole on the floors and rockers. Ill post pics as I move along. With $$ being the scarce part of the build, I am still determined to get this thing running and driving hopefully in about a year. I repeat, Running and Driving..I doubt it would be done. are they ever? I learned a few things on the 48 build that would hopefully help me not make the same mistakes with this one.( mostly the order and planning ) I felt I did things twice sometimes 3 times on the 48. OK, enough jibber jabber.. couple of pics from pick-up 2 weeks ago and wifey shots this afternoon - Man, she's a definate keeper. Hoping you folks can inspire me with a couple photos of 54 hardtops you may have. many Thanks in advance.
http://www.customclinic.com/Library/DT_Book/dt_book.html Just a few pics tons of other pic out there. Moonglow is deff. The most famous but often copied still a very good looking car. Good luck with the project!
One of my current projects.... Had it since high school and it's still not "done". Currently getting all new wiring, interior, motor and trans. And yes, I'm putting new tires/wheels on it. lol.... those are leftovers from the early '90s.
looks like you got a nice solid start, rust and rot sucks the life out of ya!! Damn i wish i could get stephanie out in the garage to work on her merc!
Those are beautyful cars please dont say you are chopping the top The moonglows rear window is just so ugly
does this help? just bought this. 300 bucks, i couldn't pass it up. i have everything except the hardtop window trim and flippers. it'll be a while on this one, though!!
Nice project, looks real solid. Here´s mine, just ordered a set of 6.70 Firestones which hopefully will look great under the fenders. /Manne
Thanks! I´m not much of a photographer myself but I found this photo on the web. I can´t take any credit for the build as I bought it this way, but I´ve made some minor changes during the winter. Manne
Looks like a great start. Good luck with the project. I've been working on my 53 ht, For about two years. Hope to be roadworthy soon.
Slow progress..but here is a picture update cleaned up a little with trim and bumpers hanging all over the place. Its a shame that i will end up removing the ol school pinstriping on the dash. Also got a mill from my pops. 350/350 for 2 bills, needs a rebuild though. Last, I was able to back it in as I am ready to start removing the old front end off of this thing. I will post up more as this turd gets less turdy.
I regret to say that I have to sell this old girl to fund an unexpected move. sucks really bad when a rental gets sold from under ya. will be available in the classifieds soon.
