Maynard Troyer. Couple photos of his roll over at Westboro Speedway. The other is from Trenton.
Photographer unknown. All photos are either personal pics or ones I purchased in grab bags at local track photo booths.

If I'm correct .. there were two versions of this car .. one for asphalt and one for dirt.

If this is the car that Jack Duffy owned & drove, it would be the asphalt one .. therefore YES the one that gained fame in that article as .... "THE LAST COUPE AT DAYTONA".

I don't know what ever became of the dirt car, but I'm sure someone here does.

You might already know .. now in his 80's (I think) Jack Duffy is still racing TQ's (three quarter midgets) in Florida and WINNING!!!!

It's taken me 2 weeks to view all the great modified photos on here. Got to the end, went to post, and realized I hadn't registered! Hoping someone has more photos from the Park. Haven't seen any photos of Bob Polverari racing the Czanecki Brothers 20 vega. The same year he won the 500 at Riverside Park teaming up with Jerry Cook. Cook broke 10 to 15 laps into it and Bob raced 480+ straight laps to win... I was a Polverari fan. My father decided to go to Danbury that Saturday. When I found out he won. I was one angry kid!

Congratulations to the Woods Brothers on winning Daytona. Isn't their old 37 Ford Modified driven by Allsion somewhere in New England now?

The Woods Brothers restored coupe was in Richmond, VA but was sold to a former Cup car owner and is now in Mooresville, NC.

  13. In the early 70's just out of H.S. a friend bought this one and I did a quickie spray job outside in my yard.

This pic id from the 78 Spring Sizzler at Stafford. Article never mentioned that the State Police shut down the event for the day (Saturday) after this wreck. The cars broke the wooden gates just before turn one and knocked them back over 10 feet, one guy standing near the gates got a compound fracture of the leg. My buddy and I saw the start of it, but 'hit the dirt' because we were standing against the fence right next to the gate on the turn one side. One of the drivers jumped out of his car and was wailing on the other driver. We walked out on the track and were surprised he managed to get out of the car because the transmission was where his legs should have been. Don't remember who was involved.

This is a pretty good summary, with pictures, of that race:
    http://www.staffordmotorspeedway.com/Pages/News/Sizzler-1978.htm
Full coverage of the Flemke crash, but no mention of anything untoward as you have described.
Check out that entry list - 99 cars and drivers!

  21. I want one of those. Any for sale in your area?
