Long/short, I bought me a Merc awhile back and this came with it, since then I bought a new Merc and the front frame is trashed. Measuring the two, this seems like it will fit, but I have no clue what it is. I just really want to find out so I can order brake parts etc. Here is what I can tell you.

The subframe is a front steer, drum brakes. It measures from wheel mounting surfaces around 58 1/2 or 59 inches. The distribution block/prop valve for the brakes is on the engine side of the frame, drivers side, and the brake lines to a funky thing. Its hard line, then its a brake hose, then more hard line into the backing plate. I dont know if thats standard procedure on Chevys of a certain vintage, but seemed odd to me. The column only reads Chevrolet in script, and has ignition on the column, as is shifter, but its not a tilt.

Back in college my girlfriend at the time had a 70 Nova, and the steering wheel kinda reminds me of that.

Here are the pics, if you guys can help it would be super appreciated, and if you need any measurements, pics, etc, just lemme know.

Judging from the front steer steering box , I would think it was out of a Camaro , say , mabye '70-81 model , most people like the Nova sub due to the rear steer box , it's mounted behind the wheels instead of in front...:)

from the looks of it (i cant see the rear of the rails) it looks like a front frame section rather that a sub frame. has the rails been cut in the rear instead of just bolts removed? maybe a chevelle/monte carlo front clip? i dont remember the front rails on a camaro being that shape either.

Hmm, ok, Camaro. The rear that came with it was a coilover, and 1st gen Camaro was leaf, but this front end is narrow, which is throwing me off. How late were Camaros offered with drums up front? It seems to really date the car to a degree. Thanks man!

Yes, it was a full frame, sorry for the confusion, not an unboltable subframe.

If those lower chairs are original its 69 or older. :)

  8. I think those engine mounts were discontinued around 1973.

  9. 68 and up chevelle or first generation monte carlo, drum brakes, front steer, full frame, frame horns, and a-arm upper a arm design will be the key to id

Is the column from the same car as the front clip? The steering column looks like the one in a '70 Impala that I learned to drive in.

My '69 Chevelle had the prop valve located where that one is.

My folks had a 71 Chevelle with a steering wheel like the one in your post. Frame definately looks Chevellish (?????????).

The brake valve down there is a giveaway. You are the sort to be messing with the height of the thing, which leads to a connection: These Chevelles, up to '72, use the same basic spindles as '68 Camaro and Nova, but equipped with different bolt-on arms to make them front steer. All the F and R steer arms on this generation are bolt-on. This means that dropped spindles are available, assuming no conflict with the arms...I think they will be moving AWAY from said conflict. Also, the A arms are basically the same, except in comparison with Nova-Camaro the rear rubber bushing is a fat thing on most to allow more compliance on bumps...ne stock, dropped, and narrowed A arms are available.

70-81 Camaro/Firebird to not kick out wider like that, they are straight. Possibly Chevelle?
