I love it when this kind of stuff survives with the car:

It's alive!!!! Just got it fired up - idle is like wide open so can't run it much but at least I know it'll run! Now to start digging into this carb.....

Cool car, I really like it. I'm really starting to dig those mid 50's Caddys, especially the one 40studedude put together.

Love 54 Cadillacs. I originally wanted a 54-56 Cadillac but settled for a 56 Oldsmobile. A friend in my car club owns one and he's always getting positive feed back. Can't go wrong with a caddy.

Thought a little update was in order. Got the car running and driving. Rebuilt the carb - a small fiasco in itself. Drained the oil and pulled the filter. Car was last on the road in 1995 so I didn't expect things to be too ugly. When I pulled the filter it looked like it may have been in since 54! Nasty! When saw it, I decided I'd better have a look down in the canister. Sludge almighty! Really thick and gritty stuff in the bottom. When I drained the oil it didn't look too bad. Hopefully all the crap was in the filter. Pulled the canister and cleaned it. Refilled with some 10-30 and a quart of atf. Ran it long enough to get it hot and discover that the water pump is gone. Time to pull that I guess.

I pulled the Master cylinder as the plunger was stuck "in". Tore it down, soaked it, honed it and re-assembled. Bled all the way and viola - I have brakes. I wouldn't go out on the road until I inspect all the wheel cylinders, but I can at least move it around the yard.

    More to come.

I thought all the years' pumps bolted on, minus the outlet for the heater hoses... Can get new casting for $129, or shaft and seal-up kit for $60 bucks...
