Projects Airbags on my 1957 F100 (Build Thread) Finally!

Very NICE!!!

 

Well I got the system done last week and drove it to GNRS! Don't know if any of you saw it there, but it made it down there without one problem!

In the rush to get it done I didn't take any pictures, but I am going to put it up on a lift and get some pictures of everything finished.

It rode better then I could have ever imagined! I put pretty stiff shocks on it so it wouldn't be super squishy and it rides perfect. The AccuAir system makes the truck as easy to drive as any static suspension. It adjusted any time I got in or out and after I had it aligned it drove straight down the highway without a thought.

Thanks for all the support and props. I'm going to build a round notch cover still, so I will post pics of my progress. Here are a couple pics of the truck at GNRS.

Definitly subscribing to this since I have the same truck and would like to get it lowered too. I got a 57 F350 a while back that I want to extend the frame on and make a car hauler/ramp truck out of.

Very very nice. I've put a similar set-up on my 48 F-1 project ( Mustang II with a triangulated 4 bar on air bags) and was hoping for the ride results that you described. Easy to drive, a nice stance, and a good ride. Doesn't get any better than that. Thanks for posting.

Sorry it's taken so long to get more pictures up. The truck made it to GNRS without a hitch. I've been back at home and driving it a bunch. It rides incredibly! I got it up on the lift to check everything out, and everything looks good. The airbags aren't rubbing, and all the height sensors are exactly as I left them. On the way home on Sunday it ended up raining pretty hard. With the way I mounted the ECU and the valves I gave them a good weather test! Even though it's all electronic, I didn't have one issue! I cleaned everything up while it was on the lift and took some pictures of how I mounted everything. I got a pair of AccuAir's new compressor mounts too. They have an isolator at each corner and take away almost all the noise and vibration that the compressors usually cause!

Now I'm gonna work on building a cover for the notch in the bed. I wanna make it match the shape of the inner fenders. Wish me luck!

Looks sweet man. Where did you get those clamps that you use for the height sensors? seems like the perfect way to mount them.

Great job on the project. I agree, air is the only way to go!!! I too have it on my 53 chevy with just enough clearance that if it blows a line, I can still get it out of the street. I have a M-II setup also with about 1 1/2 inches of clearance under the crossmember when aired out and I put bump stops in a mini notch to keep the frame from setting on the rear end. My avatar is of the truck. Great job on the fabrication and finish of your truck. Keep up the great work.
