neat drag car names

I remember going to Englishtown and watching Tom Grove driving "The Melrose Missile".

 

Another really cool funny car for the time was Pete Seaton's Corvair, "Seatons Shaker".

 

That's cool. Well it's not cool that you had cancer it is cool that you've fought it off 4 times. Stay strong.

My dad grew up in southern Tenn ( born in 1944) and he tells me about this one car that was a 27 T with a 8 deuce fed Nailhead and was called Thunder Jug! He said it was crazy fast! wish i could find pics of that!

 

"The Ugly" a 37 Chevy 4 door sedan gasser run around southern Ontario and Niagara and down into Ohio in the mid to late 60s.

Had a friend with a Falcon Jr. Stocker that had this character with Forget Hell on the trunk and Tennessee Soldier on the quarters.

There was a '65 Plymouth Super Stock car that ran at Tri-City Dragway that was called "The Big Torque-Tia" back in the '70's. Got a negative somewhere(along with a few hundred others) that I need to get reprinted-lost the original pics that shows the car.

My good friend the late Jim Burg had a 66 impala stocker back in the 70s that he bought from Cal Method.he called it ALL DOLLARS AND NO SENSE!!!!!

 

In the late sixties I worked for some guys that built a 55 chevy with a 427 ford in it. When they got it finished...they said " we gotta' have a name for it " So I said " It's pretty obvious to me...it has to be called CONFUSION " with the letters going every which direction. It ran at KC raceways. If anybody happened to get a pic of it...I sure would like to see it again. Also does anybody that used to go to the KC track remember the old guy they called POPS...he wore a regular shoe on one foot and a tennis shoe on the other. Good times...good memories.

was a thames panel in the early 60's if my memory is intact that ran a really hot flathead-named "Willie's Pie Wagon"-may have seen a pic of it somewhere here on the HAMB-saw it run at Madera and maybe Raisin City as well
always thought the name fit that little car well-was at some of the same meets as SWC and the Reath black Willys

Here's some of my rides that have some cool names.

 

Back when I was a kid the local Ford dealer raced several cars. One was a '67 Ford Fairlane 427 2 door hardtop. It was a deep, deep metalic blue, almost black. I always loved the name on it---"NIGHTMIST". Fit the car great. Mark L

 

i didn't have time to read thru the whole thread but i think "Gate Job" was probably the best name for a car ever.

Also, Phony Pony was good too; If someone could find pictures of the the phony pony that would be appreciated.


2) But what is the point in naming a car? i never understood that. It's not like you could get it confused with another car. i noticed the pro cars are generally not named or at least are not lettered with a name.

3) i also never understood putting your name on the car. If you're a pro, then ok. But if you're an amateur, then why?
a) Putting the wife's name on the car as well; Did she help build it? Most likely no---then why put the name on the car? If she helped pay for it, then ok, but still don't see the point.

4) Some names are catchy, but there are alot of names that conjure up redneck connotations; In these cases the names are better left off.

i've never named any trackcar i've had and never will and i've never put my name on any of them. i figure if someone wants to know who i am they'll come to me in the pits.

 

P.S. 1) Need much more info on this car.


2) the best names come from the model kits----in this case names are ok.
