P.O.S. from Harbor freight. Didn't have time to build, but knew I could modify as needed if I had to. Comes with gauges-throw them away. Supplied fuel tank was full of shit-used a 5 gal. can off to the side. Garden hose adapted to rad. hoses for cooling. Haven't changed anything on it, but I DO recommend checking all the fasteners before each fire up. I'll probably weld it all up solid once it is to my liking. It was too cheap to pass up and time constraints kept me from building one. I wanted to hear that motor NOW! Here is my 1957 Olds J-2 Motor "Test Stand". Ok Ok.... it's not a "Test Stand" but a "Display Stand". Actually it does have a remote start and the motor turns, crank, pulley, fan, etce. I have an eletric motor hidden in the oil pan that runs every thing.

I built this one a few years ago I was also in the process of changing from carbs to efi, so I set it up to use both while the motor was still on the stand. The break in was with the carbs. I should have set up a muffler system, the megs were too loud to let anyone think, and as a result, we cut short the time spent with debugging the efi.
The hemi reminded me of a "test run" we did in my shop back in 1990. A blown alky 467 inch early hemi,6-71 run 50% over. 1198hp, 1550!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ft/lbs torque. It was sitting on a homemade engine stand ($11) with ratchet straps running to various poles in pole barn. Buddys brought over a 5 gallon can of alky and we lit it up. Holy moly! My 'redneck dyno' is a wooden pallet with wooden blocking and sometimes a ratchet strap. It's been used several times...
Test stand? don't need no freaking test stand. Actually I use to use several not too much different than what Cactus1 showed in his photos. Sparse but they held an engine, radiator, battery and a couple of gauges and they were easy for the kids in the class to work on the engines and could be shoved in the corner when they weren't needed.
This is my run-in stand, adjustable for different engines. BBC,SBc, Pontiac-------Blown flathead next!!

right now i'm building a test stand that i can test any damn thing i want to on it , it's legs are 3 1/2 in scd40 steel galv pipe and the cross supports are galvinised mini I beams, i want to be able to test a detroit 871 in it or a 460 ford or a 4cyl geo mill without problems. i'll post pics tomarrow.
Made mine from an extra rebuild stand I has saying around. Added heavy duty wheels and it rolls around great. Not pretty but serves the purpose.
Damn! The motor was still singing...did the engine come off the stand or did something come apart internally? Or all of the above?
I don't have any good pictures of it at the moment, but we built one on top of a flat cart we bought from Costco several years back (aluminum diamond plate deck, what look like large pneumatic caters, with solid rubber tires). We used angle for the perimeter of the frame, built a framework out of light tube scrap we had, and a knockoff brand "moon" tank for fuel. We used the radiator from our salt flat car, as it was the engine we were testing, Hilborn and all. Most of it was stuff we already had.
