Some may have seen my post several weeks back when I picked up this 40 Deluxe coupe

The owner rebuilt the motor in the early 70's and for whatever reason like a lot of projects it didn't make it back on the road.

Over the last few weekends I stuck a battery in it and was surprised to hear it spin, but I wasn't getting spark to the plugs. I pulled the distributor and used some 600 grit on the points, changed the condensor, but still wasn't getting spark.

Yesterday I pulled the distributor again, re-checked the points, sanded the contacts on the rotor and and the plug contacts, reinstalled and got it to pop a few times on ether, but I needed a second hand to run the throttle and keep an eye things to be safe.

So today my Dad came up and with a few shots of fuel and some ether here is what we got.

After this we determined the carb was not pulling fuel, so we pulled the carb, disassembled it, cleaned and reinstalled. We checked the fuel pump and it is not pumping, I'm guessing the diaphram is dried out. But we did get it running off the carb bowl of gas. Sounds pretty good.

Now it needs a little more TLC and going through all the mechanicals.

I can hear from the video that the compression is even by how steady it cranks over. Sounds like a nice motor with no rusty valve seats.

I'd bet your dad had good fun that day..and I see you did too.

Good ear, and your right it was starting to clear out and run pretty damn good on the second try, and the carb is pulling a lot of air. I was a little concerned the valves might be sticky, as I didn't run a compression check to verify, So far so good, and I will run some Marvel Mystery Oil for a longer run.

No huge bellows of smoke or even a oil smell. The first test fire blew a bunch of shit out of the Y-pipe, which appeared mostly exhaust scale.

We did have a good time, we had a good laugh over how good it sounds.
