I am liking what I see here but a 401 would be a lot better to run . I am a die hard Ford guy but that 460 is just way to heavy ! I had 2 of them and sold them to build a SBF . I have never thought of using a Jeep front axel as a gasser axel ! What did you get that out of like year and model . I am going to be building a 50 Ford gasser and be toying with the idea of what straight axel to use . Never thought about a Jeep front end . How about some details so I can start measuring to see what will fit or not . How wide from outside rotor to rotor is that ? Are you going to use the same steering box as well ? Retro Jim
i'd love to run an AMC engine in this thing, but a 460 is what i DO have. what i DON'T have is a fat wad of dough. the cherokee has a 58" track width. it may have to be narrowed a bit to fit just right in my rambler. as far as the years, any cherokee from 1984 to 2001 should work. they were all the same as far as as the front 2wd axles go. it's a good cheap way to get a good solid front end, disc brakes and all. it's also a 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern just like the small ford. not sure what steering box i'm going to use yet.
i knew the 2wd Cherokees had these axles, but it never clicked with me to use one for this project until i saw this thread... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=485146
I would make that prick a little sleeper , changing nothing but maybe a grand national drivetrain with a little more tire. It would be very fun too eat a few mustangs with that car... sending them fellas back home to order some more shitt from summit racing.
