Hot Rods Belly Tank Build Underway, Bonneville 2011 ?

Power will be supplied by a Jimmy 302, .120 over, roller valve train, 4 bolt mains, steel straight cut timing gears, mated to a SB Chev scatter shield by an adapter plate/mid-plate. Muncie 4 speed will have only 3rd and 4th gear, therefore; a push truck will be in order. Wonder if Kevin Silva will have his '40 Ford P/U completed, Ummmmmm......

The cage is half completed, hopefully I will have the upper portion completed by tomorrow night......

 

Few more Pic's... Tank is sitting on the floor, beside the frame table.... The top portion of the tank has been cut of the suspension/axle components, no cut for the cage as of yet...

 

What kind of tank are you using? Sounds like an awesome build!

 

It is a fiberglass (Ya I know, it will float) tank pulled off of an original P-38 with a 20" extension added to the middle of the tank for the added length of the Jimmy inline 6.

 

Awesome!!! P-38's have the right shape for the look but really when it comes down to it, you're going racing so the look isn't as important. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Tank plus Jimmy equals awesome!

Exactly! And really if you've ever been to Bonneville, you are so far away from these cars when the action is going down (except for the starting line) that a p38 looks like a Hayabusa.

Hey Norwell, wha do you know about building cars anyhow?! The build looks freaking rad, can't wait to see more of it. What compression? What carb/carbs are you using? Intake?
Final drive ratio and tire size, now we can compute what HP it will take to
push the 199+ out of this creation.

 

Better go 185(fuel) or 202(gas) if he wants a record!

Thanks to all, any advice, I certainly do not mind at all !!

Wheelbase is 132".

29" tall M/T Bonneville rear tires with 28" tall M/T drag tires on the front...

2.28 final drive.

Intake will be a 5 deuce Howard Intake, however I will be using "three" Holley 5200's, two barrel carbs... I will also take out a four barrel Awfulhauser (Offenhauser) Intake with a 650 double pumper, double feed carb just in case I have problem with the three-two set up.... I'll have to do some port matching on the Offenhauser Intake....

Compression ratio, currently 14.1 , however; it continued to blow the head gasket, with 'O' rings, when the motor ran in a vintage dirt circle track car. I will drop the compression a bit with some machine work on the slugs and who knows right now what the HP will be with the new roller valve train (.645 lift)....... I'll be switching to a copper head gasket as well....

Looking good Candy! But, you didnt match the seams on the rec. tubing Always bugs me until I paint over it!

Cage looks stout, is that a front mount and then the rear plate? Deciding on ours here.

I used the stock front motor mount, then built an adapter palte which doubles as the mid-plate, to attach a SB scatter shield to the Muncie 4 speed.... Have a look at the first picture I posted, you will see the mid-plate....
