So my Dad bought a 58 Ford...but it aint no hot rod

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Feb 6, 2011.

  1. This truck has been on a car lot for like 2 years. I have driven by it and stared at it about everyday. Last week my ol man finally went in and hagled em to a decent price.

It's a 58 F-600 factory 4x4. If this does not scream bad ass, I don't know what does. I know it aint a hot rod, but figured some people on here might like it :D

That thing looks in pretty nice shape for an old dump truck, especially a 4X4 one. When it comes down to it, who couldn't really use a nice vintage stump puller like that?

I still like it Chris but am having a hard time understanding why some Idaho farmer would need a 4x4 dump truck. Nice truck.

Your Dad's truck is far too nice to hot rod, but if you wanna get crazy here are some pix of some friend's project. These guys make chassis' for oval track racing. While the pix are a little old, I think you can imagine what is going on. When done, it will be a pro-street-ish, hot rod-ish, oval track racing-ish dump truck with a blown big block Ford!

They started with an all stock, early 50's dump truck. They sold the flathead and frame; and also scrapped the rotted dump box. New frame will have mostly oval track stuff, wide-fives, big QC, massive 4-bars and an aluminum box. They have made more progress but I haven't got any newer pix yet. Gary

Some things don't need modifying. That truck is nice the way it is. Maybe repaint the box and tidy her up.

  24. I like it alot!! I'd leave it just like it is.

It wouldn't be a Marmon Herrington or anything else....by 1959 Ford was building 4WD trucks themselves. That is one extremely cool truck.
