Sorry to hear of Mr. Valadez's passing. I was so strongly affected when I first saw pictures of the Gypsy Rose in HRM that finally I realized that building cars was in fact an art form, not just a hobby.

Jesse Valadez and his lowrider were ideal ambassadors for lowrider culture; everybody who saw Gypsy Rose "got it", without question.
RIP Jesse Valadez.

 

God's speed Jesse , rest in peace... my thoughts & prayers go out to the family.

What a nice read that was. Its always after the Grand National Show, that I think we are all reminded of how much those cars mean to us. I hope that low rider section should have its own room.

God Speed Jesse, your legacy will continue. as a "survivor" i caution all of you Hambers of age make sure you get "checked". let's not lose any others prematurely.

 

It was even on the LA ABC news last night, showing the Gypsy Rose riding to the service on a roll back and his casket which was done up in total Low Rider paint and pinstripping.

 

wow, first time I've ever seen that car. Amazing. very cool. Sounds like a dedicated guy too. Sorry to those who knew him.

It sucks, the "Koolaid" tastes like crap, you run back and forth to the can all day, you can't eat for 24 hours, they shove a garden hose up your exhaust pipe, strange and, often, pretty young girl watch and then they send you to get dressed with about a pound of KY Jelly where it shouldn't be. If you're lucky, all goes well and you do it again in another ten years. If you're pretty lucky, you undergo a low anterior bowl resection, spend a week in the horse pistol and go home to resume your life. If you aren't so lucky, you end up like Jesse.
Don't let fear, pride, apathy, misplaced machismo or whatever shorten your seat time. We're having too much fun to check out early.
If you're 50 or older, get an appointment tomorrow

All I know is if I hadn't seen in Peterson's How to do Bodywork from the seventies, I wouldnt be doing what I do now. The book had a article where they were painting the roses and panels on the Gypsy Rose, all I could do was imagine the rest of the car. Then Chico and the man, there was that 64 with roses all over it. Then Hot Rod with the Terry Cook article about lowriding with that beautiful side profile of the Gypsy Rose. I was totally hooked on lowriding from then on. I learned later after having a subscription to Lowrider mag, who Jesse was and what he meant to lowriding. Thats how a white guy fom N.C. saw it back then. I proceeded to lower my 51 Chev and run truspokes and skinny whites and called a beaner at the Winston Salem Nats, the year Pete and Jakes was there and all.It made me proud. You didn't go un appreciated Jesse, RIP.

 

R.I.P Jesse, the man and the car were true icons of the car culture for sure! No matter what style of ride you prefer!
