wtf do you mean, "ugly Dodges?" You are referring to those mavelous '61-'62 objects of art...they put most everything else of the era to shame!

Might well be Billy Tidwell. He drove before Carl Olsen as well as the Catton & Tidwell jr fueler.

    Plum,
Here's a couple more 62 Plymouths for you. The white one belonged to a friend in 63-64, the blue one is the forerunner of the "Half-Breed" car. the one with a half roof and a 65 Dodge front end.

Years ago there was a poster you could buy that had Nanook or Pure Hell...one of the Altered cars with the front wheels off the ground and a complete rotating assembly (crank and pistons) coming out from under the car...haven't been able to find that picture for years...I'd love to have it if anyone has a copy.............thanks, Donnie

While I was at IRP, we had a guy running a black '62 Plymouth in our bracket program. He was a good racer, and eventually moved into Super Street, and I think he's still racing. When I was announcing and he came to the line, I took the diplomatic route and said, "Not the prettiest thing Chrysler Corporation put out." I might add that he was a friend of mine, and still is.

Donnie, I think you are referring to Jim Miles' Magic Muffler Fiat at Lions...try searching "Magic Muffler," because the picture has been posted on the HAMB .. also try Jim Sorenson's "Awful Awful Altereds" site.

Did they time travel to the future and go to wal-mart for those hub caps on the front wheels? You can clearly see the steel rim behind the hub cap. Did they have hub caps like that back then?

Plum, you, me, 35 Touring, and Ebert here all think these are kinda coool, so everybody don't think they're ugly...I think that notion is probably perpetuated by disgruntled GM guys whose 409's used to get the snot kicked out of them by those '62 413 max wedges...

(Yes, I know Virgil Exner lost his job over these because they didn't sell...and look; now they are very, very desireable for that very reason...)

Does anyone know how to reach Steve DeTar? Someone has a motor that they think his dad built and they would like for him to look at it.

And to keep this honest, here is a picture of Ted's own car and him at work on another.

That was Al Heinkel's small-block chevy powered Comet. A very cool and fast car. Al's father had a used car lot on Springfield Ave in Irvington,NJ with some of the cleanest,no b.s. stuff in the area. Those hubcaps probably came from House Of Chrome. Ahahahaa!!! (it's a Jersey thing, you wouldn't understand)

I've tried to PM him and sent an email to the latest email address I had. The email bounced and the PM hasn't been responded to yet. I was hoping someone might have something more recent or that he might see this himself.

Yep, there's nothing new about ugly hubcaps. Or ugly wheels for that matter.
