I was watching some old movies of the 59 Nationals in Detroit There was a
brief shot of a black rear engine short dragster. The only ID I could see was B/Modified, #359, ---ford Auto Club. I found the car very interesting and would love to know more about it.. Anybody have any old records or recall the car?

I was there in 59,the only thing that come to mind is a chain driven ,transverse mounted engine of unknown name.High and Mighty was there as well as Connie Kalitta running a Lincoln engine dragster.

The video was a home made one..I'll try to get a still shot of the car...

What kind of cars would be in B/modified class at this event?

Here are some pictures of the car in question. They are about as bad as it gets, since they are digital pictures of a home movie. A shot in the dark is that someone might recognize this car.. Kinda has the look of the Speed Sport Roadster

Is there a place where you can get a roster of all drivers for the Nationals in 1959?

Might want to look at 1959 Hot Rod magazines.

  9. brechlrl,
Check Hot Rod or Car craft mags, I seem to recall an article about this car, mid-engine roadster, they even had a schematic of the cars chassis.

Kalitta never ran a Lincoln engine, that was Karol Miller and Rodney Singer from Texas. The Harford Auto club was north of Baltimore,I had never seen apicture of that roadster, but had heard of it .
