Aussie Icon-- The UTE

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oz40, Mar 3, 2009.

  1. '53 Holden. Mid 80's build by my brother (hot-rod dude). Cherry little car, fairly stock, blower cam, was set up for Norman blower, ( it was not fitted). Seen here at auction where it sold.
Please excuse crap photo- figure it shows how nicely proportioned these utes look in profile.

  2. A friend of mine has a Mainline ute (not sure what year only seen it once, never got to look at the front, it's locked away in a farm shed) in pretty poor condition that has had a metal canopy welded to it and the back of the cab cut out making it one seriously ugly wagon . I'l find out more about it if you guys want?

He also has 2 customlines (both twin spinners I think) and a 2 door Ranch wagon . He has plans to restore them all but he's had them for 15+ years and hasn't touched any of them :(.

The powell was made in the 50s on a refurbished 1946-48 Plymouth passenger car frame are what I would consider a rebody not new manufacture. I never really cared for the look of them either.

  9. I bought a I bought a '39 Standard Ute in 1973. Paid $50.00 and drove it home. See picture below.

Eventually dismantled it but moved it on whilst I built a '32 Highboy. My information is that this car went to the USA. The body and frame had all been primed but no assembly.

Some suggestion it went somewhere over to the east coast of USA. That was some years ago now, perhaps late 80's.

Anyone spotted one of these or heard of one of these Stateside?

Now slowly progressing on a '28 Plymouth ute however other projects are taking priority.

Its the only pic i have its one on the cleannes purples ive ever painted .so deep , so rich in colour , so simple to paint ,it was a candy pearl over gun metal base. I wish i had more pics of it after a year i sold it to a farmer from new south wales . 12 months later i bought it back he destroyed the paint ,and two weeks later i destroyed the front.
so back in the shop it went. I then suicided the doors shaved the door handles and rounded the corners . i sold in lilac suede I know where it is today a mate of mines got it its lookin a little bit down , but not for long itl be back on the scene soon i hope.

Does anyone know if the green one was a factory car? Or is it a custom build?
