Just a NIFTY old shot! ANYBODY want to name the make
and model of the two vehicles AND guess the year and
location? Also, if anyone's interested, new copies of this
vintage vehicle pic are available, reasonably priced, in 8"
    X 10 framable format by a Pennsylvania seller, Mr.Tiques.
Just search "Old Photo Harley Davidson Police Officer Early
    Car."

Dang, Harm'sWay, that's a cool shot of Francisco, way back in '39. NICE machine, too! I guess it just goes to shot guys were building hotrods before the war, even though the term wasn't heard much yet.

  5. Might be a circa 1909-10 Pope Hartford. The 1911 cars had the eyebrows on the front fenders as far as I can work out. I think the Harley could also be 1910 or 11.
According to the pics in The Standard Catalog the 1910 P-H cars did not have fender eyebrows but the 1910 cars I have found modern pictures of do. The car in this pic looks too big to be a 1909 30hp - in fact it looks big enough to be a 1910 40. I think there was only one model each year but it got progressively bigger year by year. For comparison there are several Pope-Hartford pics to be found on this page - http://www.kitfoster.com/carport/ - from the report dated Jan 19.

Don't know anything about this, other than it is enlarged into a poster and was pasted onto hardboard. It was left in the garage by the previous owner of the house when we moved in 25 years ago. Unfortunately the picture has sustained some damage. Some sort of early chain drive small truck.

That's the photo I have around here, wonder if it is the same car as in the other photos? Note the full rear tonneau, different dash board and rear fenders. [IMG]

  14. Could be a (British) Daimler - not before 1897 but could be as late as 1901. Probably has a Phoenix V-twin engine with hot tube ignition. The last one of those I saw start up took nearly twenty minutes from cold.

I don't know if it is the same car or not. :)

Could it be the car "as delivered", before being modified for the journey .

PS. Different people in different seats in the photos, too. :)

Hey, thanks for that - I did a bit of digging and it certainly looks like the 6hp model. I didn't realise it was probably that old.

From the one in the photo, Jensen Bros. kept moving forward. Clark Gable had approached Jensen and ordered a Jensen bodied Ford V8 (but he cancelled his order before delivery). The front suspension was altered using under and over leaf springs as control arms. A remote shifter was available. Cars could be ordered with a Ford V8, a Nash dual ignition straight 8 cylinder, or a flat head V12 Lincoln-Zephyr. Also available was a 2-speed Columbia rear end.

A bit like a factory built Hot Rod, I guess.
