Alright heres a short update. I had work this week so I didn't get as much done. I finished up the trunk seal area in the rear, and started reworking the license plate opening. One of the biggest design f*ck its from GM was the rear license plate location. Its just a hole in the back center of the car, and I can't have that.

When the trunk is closed the trunk lid to rear body pannel gap is interupted.

    So...time to fill it.

I took out the original license plate hinge, because it is huge and wont let the plate clear the new filler piece, and replaced it with a piece of piano hinge.

I welded the factory gas door bulkhead to the piano hinge, so I have a place to bolt the plate.

Then I made two side filler pieces to close in the gaps on the sides. I think it helped. I still have to make up the pieces to make the pannel flare when it gets to the plate.

Hey Folks here another short update.

I got the passenger side door all lined up but the back door gap was terrible.

So the saga of welding, grinding and fileing begins. The trick is to not warp the shit out of the door. The first couple passes.

Several hours of welding and fileing later...

Then I got out the mud.

And while it was out I did the wheel well.

More later this week once I charge my camera.

Why yes I do have some updates I'v just been lazy with the posting. Heres what I'v got for today.

The is a bunch more cancer on the inside support of the hood than I originaly thought and I want to do something a little different with the hood so the first step was to pull out all of the inner structure.

About a zillion spot welds later...

Now time for the fun stuff. The rust repair can wait. Since I have have a few of these dam cars lying around I've grown tired of the big rib in the hood and want something different. so...

I put some little "L" braces in at the back to keep a little bit of the flop out.

    Then began the filling.

There is a piece of dodge hood trim That I'm looking for. It almost looks like the inset shape in a 60 pontiac hood, kind of spear shaped. I have to find that before I can finish the hood but Ill update on the hood as I get more done.

I got the jones to start on the roof and couldn't do it with glass and trim in place so it had to go.

I found a lot less cancer than I thought I would in the lower window channel which was nice.

Hopefully I'll have the roof prepped and ready shortly after I get back from GRNS.

My motor is back from the machine shop and ready to be assembled. :D
And I have a cart-o-dynaflow that I need to piece together into a working transmission. Wish me luck.

if i'm correct, theres an old service station in your town that looks like it closed for business one day & never re-opened, it's got that 70? dodge service truck parked inside and a bunch of neat other junk. you know the story? killer work on the car btw.:)

This is my first time seeing this thread, and I must say its the most interesting one Ive seen in a while, and Ive been on here a lot on my days off work since it started snowing about a month ago.
My cousin owns a salvage yard and he crushed a pretty much rusted down 59 convertible a couple years ago even tho I tried to get him to save it for parts.

Hey guys heres a short update for ya.

I got the roof stripped and all of the window channels cleaned out and Por-15'd. A little mud and some primmer and It will be time for shiny stuff!

Got the under side all cleaned up and painted.

Then sound dead'nd it to add a little regitity for block sanding.

And then more on the saga of the hood. I cut out most of the rust and the emblem holes and made a new panel that sofens the roll at the bottom of the hood. Then I started shrinking the shape out of the top. The Idea is to make the hood a little more stream lined and less like the front of a...buick...

Thats it for now. more soon.
