Mark I love this shot of the car as well, I have just got back from a
660 mile round trip to reunite Al Hamberis with his old Willys,
very emotional meeting some great tales from back in the day
    what a nice man,

Wanda, Are you and Larry planning on making the Beaver Springs Gasser Nationals? I missed the last 4 out in Ohio due to a health issue one year and my son's Jr Dragster schedule the other 3 (well worth it, he's doing well at it). I won't miss this year though, we're going to miss a Jr Dragster double header to make it.

Rocky, I know you'll be there and looking forward to seeing you and your crew as always.

Hutch, great photos, keep 'em coming. Don't let the negativeness chase you away. I'm sure I'll see you too at the Beaver.

    Hi John
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm looking forward to getting up to Beaver Springs.
I'm still fighting the negative HAMBSters and their moderator friend who have objected to my postings . Notably I'm currently fighting the second deletion of the photo of the "Hart Automotive" 33 Willys tribute car that ran at the Columbus NHRR in 2007. Gotta wonder how these guys define a "traditional" Willys gasser if a replica of the 1969 Hart car is an "off topic buildstyle" and does not belong on the HAMB. I also find it very interesting to note that there have been previous postings of the original Hart cars in this thread that are apparently "OK" by the complainers' and the moderator's "traditional "standards. Also.. to add to my conclusion that these guys are out of touch with reality ...are the previous postings in this thread of the Mike Molea and Brent Harris "modern" winged gassers, Why didn't those postings receive the wrath of the traditional police? With their logic, Rocky's "K.S. Pittman" tribute car would be an "off topic buildstyle". Go figure. I'll keep up the good fight for those of us who know a "traditional" Willys gasser when we see one, and who understand about the continuation and evolvement of the Willlys into the winged "modern" cars we see at the CHRR and NHRR.

Don't take every comment to heart..

when you were messing around with front engine dragsters back in the 60's,these guys weren't even born.

There is a thread for dang near every topic known to man!..
Your pics fit just fine, and most are damn good shots!..

don't let it get to you when I was new to the HAMB I took my share as well. you are fortunate enough to see and have pictures to prove it of these cars back in the day. you are the one I credit for taking that amazing picture of my Willys coupe at Beeline in Arizona from 1967! see you at York this summer

My guess is because the moderator(s) didn't take the time to go back through every page and delete the modern cars like the ones below (page 16 btw!). Simply put, the HAMB has never been about promoting modern cars (or 'modern traditions').....or did I miss something here? Seeing how you were around in March of '66; one would think you would have figured out the difference between what's traditional and what's not by now! LOL! Short of my initial post inquiring about the modern cars being posted in this thread I have not had any contact what so ever with any moderator......it was entirely their choice to start deleting the stuff they felt didn't promote the HAMB.

    Hutch,

Thanks for posting this shot as well..! This is from Old Dominion Dragway in Va. The K.S. Pittman tribute car with Greg "Classical Gas" Mauchamer driving was the winner of the four car AA/GS shootout. Greg is a good driver and a really good guy!

Another Virgil Cates shot. This one is at the 2006 NHRA NATIONALS in Indianapolis where a special "Gathering of Gassers" display was assembled.

That is the nearly original Barnes Brothers car from northern Ohio. I grew up next door to the Barnes Brothers and this car was my inspiration to build my [previously posted] Willys coupe. It originally had a 268ci small block Chevy with Hilborn injection, Pete Jackson Rev Kit, roller cam - all the hi-tech pieces for the early sixties. I remember it pulling the wheels on every shift and winning A LOT of eliminators. Richard Barnes once told me it had a nine grand tach in it and they burried the needle on every shift. Their biggest problem was keeping gears in the transmission as I recall. This was before shift dogs replaced ineffective brass synchronyzers. The original pearl white paint is now a little faded but it still does it to me.

They also had the beautiful "Barnes and Sperry" '55 Chevy D/Gasser that preceeded it.
