I was there, at the Indianapolis Fairground, friday afternoon 1984. I saw the 57 and ZZ Tops 33 coupe, and they made a big impression on me. I was 20 years old and it was my first trip to USA. My girlfreind and i, was on a trip from Virginia to visit her brother in Nebraska, and had planned a stop at the Hot Rod Supernationals. I knew the car from the magazines, but it was great seeing it live. And it wasnt Halibrands, Eric Vaughn/Real Wheels made them. Lars
I fell in love with that '57 at the age of 9 and have never forgotten it. I don't know what happened to the magazine, my family moved from California in 1990 and it was probably trashed then... One of the few '57s I have ever found easy to look at, even at that age I was drawn in by the attention to detail and how the front end of the car (one of GM's least attractive, in my opinion) was made to look so much lighter just by the painting of the upper grille bar and simple restyling of the floater in the grille. One of my all-time favorite magazine project cars, for sure.
That was always been one of my favorite cars and my favorite '57. I still have the Hot Rod annual that Pat Ganahl did the write up on the finsihed car.
Found this thread whilst looking for pictures of the Flashback 57. It was this car and feature that caused my 56 to be off the road for waaaayyyyy too many years as I strove to emulate the ethos, if not the exact style, of build with my car. Loved the simple look of a Tri Chevy that at first glance just appeared to be a lightly gone over stocker with wheel and lowering but upon closer inspection was much much more. Due to the time taken mine ended up morphing ever so slightly with rear wheel that were just a tad too wide for liking in later years but.... Chalk up another one that was influenced by this great car.... Where is it now? P.
Hmmmm ... Kinda looks like Progect X 57 CHEVY ... Here is a 57 we restored in the GM lakewood plant in 1990 ... It went back down the same assembly line it went down in 1957 ...
