I heard about a guy who had problems with a neighbour like that, so he moved his fence line a foot closer on his own property, then he went on the other side of the fence, still technically on his own property and spray painted a bunch of obscene shit all over the fence so the neighbor would have to look at it, and told the neighbor if he tries to repaint the fence, he'll charge him with trespassing.

Where I live it is very laid back. The guy at the county told me that they do not go around looking for any potential violations. That would just be making his job harder. But he has to follow up on any complaints. It's his job. He also told me that this certain neighbor goes around making complaints about stuff all over the county. The county guy told me that this guy is like having a rock in his shoe. He is on my side.

My neighbors love me. The one is a real tight friend the other is a retired couple that live in a different city except for a couple weekends a year. I had a motocross track in my front yard with a big jump about 50' from their front door. They never said shit and used to sit and watch me ride. I try to keep their lawn cut for them(15min job) and they send us Christmas gifts every year and a check for cutting the lawn.

30 years ago as a late teen had a neighbor that constantly called my house and complained about the cars and dogs. I made it a hobby to run over her flower bed and mailbox on my way home occasionally. After several hits, the owner started to fortify the base. On my last hit, a back-up maneuver, I got my dang car stuck and had to abandon ship. Got arrested that night for disorderly conduct and car got impounded. Paid $50 to get out of jail, $50 for the impoundment, and agreed to $50 restitution for the mailbox. $150 it cost me, not bad considering I got her 5 times! and she quit harassing me!

  5. A neighbor like this will not go away unless you make his life equally miserable but don't do anything illegal. My old neighbor was a major PITA, cursing at kids, calling the police because my cat walked in his yard. I planted invasive bamboo that grows toward the sun on his side gave him plenty to do. Best part was I got the bamboo for free from his cousin that hated him.

The game camera is a great idea, gets you the photographic proof to call him out on the trespassing . Add this to your system and you should should get some major laughs.

Every town has one (pain in the neck neighbor).

Unfortunately I guess we both live across the street from "that guy"

Mine has called the police on me so many times, I've quit counting.
I've never done anything wrong, but the police have to show up because he calls. The building I bought was empty for about 3 -4 years, guess he liked it that way. Guess he should have bought it to keep it that way. But now that I'm in there, I do as I please, when I please. Gotta love owning a place in a town that has no residential/commercial/industrial zoning.

I have a burning barrel for excess cardboard out back behind the shop that can't be seen from his house or the main road in front of my shop. "Mysteriously" it catches on fire on a "non burning" day and the fire company shows up to put out the "dumpster fire". Pretty good considering I was out of town that day. The only way I knew they were there is I got a $150 ticket in the mail for burning on a "non burning" day. Fought the case and won when the officer that wrote the ticket didn't show for the hearing. Did I mention that the officer and my neighbor are friends? Some coincidence, huh???? Yeah....

Anyway, he's a piece of work and complains about anything and everything he thinks he can. He's now gotten to the point where he takes pictures if he thinks a car is parked illegally on the dead end street we "share". I'd like to think that eventually the police will get tired of him "crying wolf", but they can't because it's there job to show up when a complaint is filed.

The last time the police showed up, I just politely asked them to go over to the neighbors and tell him that the next time harassment charges will be filed. That's been 3 months ago. They haven't been back yet. But it's about time for the neighbor to get goofy again. Time will tell.

Until then, I try to "kill 'em with kindness". Be the better/bigger man in the situation and as sad as it is to say, hope he dies off soon.

Just remember, any retaliation from you may (will) escalate the problem. Catch him tresspassing and then you will have the upper hand. Until then you have to play the game their way.

My current neighbor is a former drag racer and works out of his garage. In fact, my entire neighborhood is full of different car guys because it's the only neighborhood around here with absolutely NO covenants or HOA so we all just leave each other alone. The house up the street that backs to mine has a couple beautiful customs that I keep meaning to make friendly with. Super happy I was able to get this house a year ago.

However, my parents' old neighbor was a real piece of work. Complained about every little thing including a child riding a big wheel in the afternoon because it was too noisy for him to sleep. He'd complain about our air compressor, cars, whatever. THEN when his kid got a car he'd always come over asking my dad to help rebuild this or replace that. Glad they moved before I was old enough to really get into cars.

Not long after I bought my house, I was showing my dad the property and my new neighbor comes over, who I hadn't met, comes over and says "When are you going to cut down that old maple tree? It's leaning toward my house and if it falls on it, I'm gonna sue you." Nice introduction, eh? The old bastard could have pulled it out as a sapling years earlier, but noooo...
I cut the tree down and used the wood for firewood.
A couple of years later, the old man gets his foot stuck on the accelerator of his truck as he leaves his driveway, it's between our houses, and hits a tree on my property. I make him pay for the damage to the tree. It put cash in my pocket, but the hit tree lives anyway. Payback.
A couple of more years later. The old guy passes, and I buy the house from his estate, renovate and rent it out. It's paying for my kids college education. Payback.

Yea had a bastard of a neighbor once. His kid stole from me. Confronted the old man and he told me his kid was an angel. I told the old man my stuff was in his yard and he said that it was his. No paper work for proof. The next day his inground pool got fill with black ritz die. Never found out how it got there. ;)

go to the local porn shop and get a subscription card for a gay men's mag. subscribe your neighbor with a money order from the other side of town. first issue he'll go WTF, second issue WTF again!, third issue he'll call and cancel. by then he'll be on every mailing list out there and will get junk (pun intended) mail for a few years. this only works if he is straight and works better if he is married. a fellow i worked with did this and watched his neighbor get his mail. got a laugh about once a week or so.

A few years ago one of the young company clerks for the Battalion I was posted to moved out with his fiancé. He was absolutely the image of the young innocent Radar type of guy but also the nicest bloke you are ever going to meet.
About a month after he moved into this house he came in one morning really pissed off, now if you knew this guy seeing him pissed off truly meant that the world must be coming to an end. Turns out that his neighbors were a few young guys that thought they were tough. When he was away they would harass his fiancé, when he confronted them about it he was threatened with violence by a group of 4 or 5 of them.
We organized a party that week end, whatt'ya know after an entire company of Airborne Soldiers arrived on their door step to ask why they would want to harass this young fellows fiancé they decided not to do it any more!!

Its amazing the persuasive power of 30 fully trained Airborne Soldiers.
I'm so glad that there are very few of these sort of issues over here in Oz, neighbors complain to the council and they tell them to shut up.

    Doc.

Whatever happened to that line about "land of the free"??
Geez you guys seem to have even more rules & regulations than anywhere I've been.
There's two things about all this I just don't understand.
1st - Who the hell cares what someone else has stacked in their back yard?
2nd - If these people have a problem with you, why don't they speak to you about it?
What sort of arse goes and whines to the authorities about something that's none of their business? And what sort of authority takes action on it when it's also none of their business either???

I've always seemed to luck out. I lived across from a bar til I was 10. So I was able to be as loud as possible. Then I lived next to a drag racer. I'll always remember his car. It was hot pink. Now I live in the middle of a city in a neighborhood zoned for agriculture down the street from a powersports shop. Generally pleasant folks who dont give a damn about noise. Now I'll just have to see how my neighbors at my first house are.

  25. Answers: 1 - assholes do. 2 - because they're assholes. And our gov't seems to think everything is it's business these days, but that's a topic for some other board.

I've been through it about three times and the best revenge is to get it legal and do it in a way that's sure to piss them off. Like with an unregistered car, just put plates on it. I did that a few times.

Old bastards like that can make your life hell if they want to.....I had a old SOB mess with me for over 2 years....If I so much as left my lawn mower out over night I would get a letter from the city the next day....I confronted him a few times....and the mother trucker, kept going on and on about keeping the neighborhood clean, Finally I started doing the same thing back to him....Turns out his electrical was out dated and deemed unsafe....City condemed his house until he brought everything up to code.....I heard he had to spend a little over $12,000.00 doing everything before They would even let him keep living there.....So make some calls of your own, turnabout is fair play.....SOB got madder than hell when I was able to get my permit to build my 30 X 40 14' wall building in my back yard....He had went to the city planning office and tryed to keep me from being able to build in my own back yard......Some stupid shit about blocking his view....Oh well hopefully he will die soon!!...I know that sounds bad, But a person should only have to put up with so much shit from anyone...

A "neighbor" isn't always the source. A local Codes & Compliance guy told me they are now using aerial photographs to go after property owners. They're looking for room additions or whatever they can find. He said it's all about generating revenue for the city. He laughed and said he can't wait until retirement in a year or so.

As far as neighbors though, I'm in good shape, the newest one has been living next to me for 7 years. He's a Jeep guy, has 6 of them in the back yard but you would never know it and I don't care anyway. On the other side of me is a 70 year old couple that treat my wife and I like their kids.

I hate loaning tools but I'll lend whatever I have to my neighbors. I've been known to cut their grass when they're out of town. Sure hope I move before any of them do. LOL.
