Nice find and I am jealous. Do what you want to do with it and send it to the warm country (CA) for retirement. I have an extra garage for it. SBC or Flat motor both look great in a 40.

It's my favorite 40 color, and what I'd like to keep on it.

  14. Eric,

That is exactly what my plans are for the 40 I have. I already have many of the parts. Thanks for answering my PM. I'm sure we'll talk again soon.

Is this a new trend for 2011, rust free HAMB finds? I'd put a 289 in there and keep it all Ford.

  19. I think I'd "color sand" that coupe! Wet sand that puppy with 400 and 600 and then have someone buff it when youre done. See how it looks.

    NUROADSIR, where are you at?

What's hard about running a Flatty? The cornerstone engine of hot rodding. May I suggest? If that is the original 221 in there, clean it and make sure it's sound. Bore it to 3 3/16" bore (standard bore for later engines). Put in a 4" Merc crank if you can find one or even one of the readily available and inexpensive aftermarket cranks. This will get you the easier to build and more conventional locked individual rod bearings. At this point you will have a very good low and midrange torque engine. Go easy on the cam and carburation. Modernize the water pumps and the ignition system. Your valve seats are already the hardend type. The engine that is in your car is not a throwaway engine. It is a tough and spirited performer with the proper set ups.

Man that is one sweet coupe you have there! It's your car so do what you want but if I was lucky enough to score that car I would remove that primer, make sure the flathead was solid, install the glass, and enjoy the hell out of it!

Just stick a dropped axle in her and put a good wheel tire combo on, clean off the primer put in the glass and drive it the way it is!

That is a sweet coupe. I don't think you can go wrong either way with the engine. Although I'd keep the rest of the driveline stock. I also vote for rubbing away that primer to expose the vintage repaint.

    Good luck with it man!!

Yikes - that's a sweet-looking find ya made !! A GREAT start . I'd try running the flatty - maybe put a 5-speed behind it , to make it more "roadable" , or I'd agree with "the37kid" with his thoughts ...

Nice score! Love your plans for it. Glad you were kidding about the jeep Cherokee frame.
