Was there ever an FE filter mount that positioned the filter forward, instead of down or straight out?

The FE and 385 series filter mounts are totally different, but thanks anyway. :)

You might try a relocation kit. And make sure if you move it forward it dont hit the sway bar if its going into a car. I got one in a comet and had to grind off alittle on the sway bar so it wouldnt rub the filter.

The FE uses a separate casting to get to a spin-on, while the 429-460 filter goes to the block like a small-block- so you could actually install the 90 from the 460 onto the FE adapter- but it would be a bit Rube Goldberg, and probably make clearance worse than better. You could just use an adapter plate off the FE block and run some braided lines to a remote filter and mount it where you like- and the remote filter mounts typically use a Ford spin-on filter

I've seen the M-6880-A50 in my Motorsports catalog, just never thought it would work on an FE mount, but according to a couple of you, it will. If I come across one used and reasonable, I'll buy it and see how it works. I already have the FE block and filter relocation adaptors, just need the fittings and hose, but a simple one-piece mount would be cleaner and less work. I've mounted a 428CJ into a street '40 coupe with a Mustang 11 front suspension, and have enough room at the cross member for a shorter FL-300 filter, just not the longer and probably better FL1A/HP1 size. If I knew for sure the shorter filter would work without any issues, I'd use it and problem solved. This is a project a few years from being on the road so I've got time to "explore the possibilities". :)
    Thanks for all your input.

For rodders who check and change oil often, why not use the FL300? I use an FL 400 on my Y block for clearance issues, it seems to work great. Short and fat vs long and skinny, or FL 1 A for long and fat and holds a full quart

I had an E-250 with the swivel adapter (it is on the drag car with a System1 on it now) from the factory, I put on a stock 460 fitting & used an FL-300 since the actual element on the FL-300 & FL-1A are the same (1A uses a spacer inside of it). As for the FE, they never made one, just the two you know of

My concern with the shorter FL-300 is flow and burst pressure, and whether it can handle a large cube engine at occasional high RPMs. There is a reason the factory used the PH8A/FL1A filter spec for most/all engines in the 50s/70s. I am going to try and contact Motorcraft, Purolator, etc,
and see if I can learn more about these filters.
I left Fram out for good reason!

I used to use an FL-300 on my drag engines without a problem. They were from 466-552 cubes & have seen 7500 RPM on nitrous passes. I use a System1 now because you buy one & never buy another. If one wants a Motorcraft & has the room an FL-1HP is the answer

If you want something that will last forever & looks cool System1 makes a short filter that is about the same length as an FL-300, it filters to 50 microns

Thanks, I will check the System1 out.
One question, how did you find out that the FL-300 element is the same as the FL-1A?

Get a filter mount from a Bronco with an FE...4x4...it turns the filter slightly to the front and will clear most of the normal obstructions.....I am using one on a Comet with a 427..

    Mark,
Thanks for the Bronco tip, now I'll try and find one! I'm more confident now with the above info that the FL-300 will work OK, but running the taller filter with a factory mount would be the best.

It's from all 4X4 FE trucks not only a Bronco part.

I will look and see if the one that I have has a part # on it in the morning. I got this one from another FE guy up in Canada. Try the FE board, here is a link..

I think you need one from a 1/2 ton 4X4. My 76 F-250 4X4 adapter points straight down, but my Nephews 68 F-100 4X4 points at an angle.May have something to do with the coil front end on 1/2 tons vs the leafs on 3/4 tons...BTW Broncos never came with a FE motor. All Early Bronco V-8s are small blocks and by the time the Big Broncos came out in 78 the FE was history..The small block adapter may work tho...never tried to put SBF parts on a FE myself.

Ford never put an FE in a Bronco.
