The blog below is documenting a year driving a stock 1930 Model A Ford every day - winter, summer, whatever. Thought HAMBers might be interested..... http://www.365daysofa.com/
Damn, this guy is crazy. Pretty awesome though. I drive 30,000+ a year, this project wouldn't be for me
After all is said & done, you might consider doing one of those self-publishing things in a little paperback format. My wife did something similar (a documentary of a small woman's fraternal organization that has been chugging along since 1940) & she orders the books as needed, for a very low price. I'd buy one.
Awesome blog so far. I'm quite jealous as i daily a 87 c10 that is in need of much love so a bone stock A would be a welcomed upgrade and it seems the mpg's is about the same.
Some where there is a story of a guy that drove a model A tudor all the way up from Agentina or Chili to give it to the Henry Ford Museum. In Michigan. Its there, I saw it. what a ride that had to be what a road trip, eh?
neat stuff, course in the old days folks drove model A's year round in much more extreme conditions, I can only imagine how hardcore it would have been back then.
This is what driving an old car is all about! But Im not about to do it daily for a year. Keep on chugggin brother, and keep us posted.
my great granddad used to drive year round with the window down on the driver's side. then again, he was a retired rail road man, used to the outdoors, and pretty tough old bird. i'm digging the guy's idea; prove to himself that all this modern shit is really not necessary. isn't that half of what we been saying all along? i love A's, but there ARE improvements over bone-stock that i would consider necessary for safety's sake. hydraulic brakes, an alternator and 12 volt lights, turn signals for BOTH sides, and a real heater-defroster, safety belts, and safety glass. i can live with 45mph cruising speed. people do 45 through parking lots here.
Congrats on getting her back home! http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/11/after-80-years-a-model-a-motors-home-to-detroit/
Cool, My elderly neighbour has an A as his "daily driver" but he often doesn't need to drive it everyday. But I see it go by my house every Sunday on the way to church. I always turn to see him go by as it sounds like my 8N coming down the road only smoother and faster! LOL. His last daily was a propane powered 40 Buick.
I was at Chickasha Oklahoma and met an old guy there from Ohio. He was driving a Model A coupe. Said it was his only car except for a dumptruck for work. He wife wouldn't ride in the coupe. So he was building a sedan for her I drove my A from East Texas to Missouri and back twice and from there to Oklahoma and back but I fixed it with a hopped up A engine, fully synchronized 3 speed with overdrive and some other improvements
