Big A. That type of seller is totally unethical. A seller has to realize that the buyer has the right to be told as much as possible about an item including honest photos and complete disclosure re; the description. After all, the buyer has to send his money first - hoping that the seller has been honest and will follow through. To do otherwise is bad "CARMA".

True, nothing is technically sold until money has changed hands, but a man's word should mean something. How would you feel if you had a verbal agreement to buy something and the seller then went ahead and sold the part to someone else because "I got more money." Also, it's pretty easy to miscalculate shipping even online.

IMO that seller was unethical and just plain wrong.

What happens if the part is SOLD and he goes back to the junkyard and it's GONE?

YOU ARE RIGHT. Unfortunately, the impersonal nature of the computer makes this possible.

I might be a little guilty of this, contacted a member a year or so ago about an item. It sounded like what I was looking for and I was ready to jump in the truck and make the 500 mile round trip drive to get it. I asked the seller for a close up picture of a particular feature of the item to make 100% certain sure it was the part I needed and that it was in usable or at least repairable condition. I never heard back from him and concluded it might not have been all it was claimed to be and didn't pursue it any further. Does that count?

I don't think it's the economy, I clearly don't buy that it's a HAMB thing, and as far as why my belief is pretty simple. The next generation behind us has not been given the values that some of us live by. Instant gratification, "hooray for me and fuck you" is their creed, with no feelings or remorse they just say fuck it and have no obligations to you. "Aww fuck em, I'll never see em anywhere". All of the younger ones? No way. But the maority, yes. They're new at this, want to fit in, think they belong just by being involved, and who do you think you are dissin their choice. Manners and integrity are foreign concepts to this next generation. They were raised on Xbox and whatever they want for dinner instead of what's served. They got an award just becuase they were on the team. Now, if you complain or even ask in a civil manner for them to be accountable, you're the asshole. Also consider that there's a bunch of just plain ignorant people out there. Parrots who say what they hear and think it's correct. "Television educated" morons who wouldn't know values or self respect if you tried to explain it to em. I was just recently told by someone close to me, "Boy you sure do care about your reputation. I wouldn't worry about those things, nobody cares." What a sad and self-loathing comment. I didn't even honor it with a response.

This is a small community. Every different form of unique motorsports is the same be it drag racers, early Ford guys, Classic Car Club folks, they're all small groups in the grand scheme of things. Tell it like it is, do what you say, say what you do, do your best to stand by it and you can't lose. I'm not perfect and never claim to be. But I've also never fucked anyone over or made deals I can't follow through on, and if they can't be done all those involved know the whole story. There are more "be backs" than ever and even more posers than in all my past years combined. Gotta deal with it I guess. If holding someone to a high standard or ethic makes me the bad guy, I can handle it.

Happens to me all the time. I always want to fire off an angry email, but realize that it really isn't going to get me anywhere. I think you can just chalk it up to being a cost of doing business.

Yes, that counts. A seller should be able to send the buyer as many pictures as needed to honestly describe the part. It's common sense.

the HIGHLANDER: You are 150% correct in all that you said. Most car folks take pride in the fact that they belong to a special brother hood. While it's not as "tight" as those who serve together as a "band of brothers" in the military, there still should be a code of conduct when it comes to dealing with each other. Honor counts.

  15. My hat goes off to all the HAMB' ers. I had a problem with only one guy. I shipped before he paid. He didn't pay. So now I wait. Everyone seems to understand that you have to wait for payment. But if we could go ahead and ship the same time they send money we could get our junk a week earlier. I was a day late sending a money order this week. As I get older I seem to be forgetting more.

It's too bad, but you pretty much have to be on a basis of when I see the cash it's sold.
If I say I'll take it, it means that I'll take it!
    Not so with many people.
On the other hand, there are lots of guys who are true to their word no matter what.
Just too bad that there are lots of talkers who mess things up.

I just went through this. "Buyer" posts a wanted ad. I respond with a counter to what he wanted. He responds what I have is really what he wanted. I dig it out, send pictures, and price, with several cost options for shipping. A week goes by, I pm him for shipping info. He responds with name/address and "I'll get you a money order." Another week goes by and no money order or correspondence to confirm the deal. Another pm to him. 3 days later he finally responds he has other issues and is going another direction. OK, go another direction, just LET ME KNOW WTF you are doing in a timely fashion. And this makes a rebound for me.....I was looking at parts on another site, and this sale was going to finance it. Now, no sale for me and no subsequent purchase. GRRRR!!!!!

There are all kinds and if you want to buy/sell on the internet you will have some bad experiences. I have had very few here, or on ebay for that matter. You just don't create a situation where things can go wrong. I have had a couple people on here over the years that tied up a good deal I offered and then dillydallied around paying me. Most HAMBers are over the top honest people and the couple who were less than that didn't lower the average much.
To be honest, I have been the one not getting stuff shipped fast. Sometimes I sell something then get called out to work and can't get it shipped for a week or two.
I asked about a pair of Fenton Hawks a few years back and had a HAMB member offer to sell me a pair. The pictures weren't real good and he described them as the chrome being a little weak. I had said I was somewhat interested but told him I wanted to wait to pull the trigger. He shipped them anyway and they were junk, then he demanded his money, which was way more than they were worth at the time, in that condition. We never did settle the deal and they are still in my shed.

Alot of people will say "ill take it" this gets them first in line and buys them some time to really think about it and decide if they want it. Thats why I dont hold anything "first come first serve" When I have money in hand its sold.

  22. Yeah, who started the thing that the money comes first? It's a 2 way street.

Excuses, excuses, used to be a mans word meant something .If you tell me you want something I am selling either keep your work or have the balls to tell me different. If you tell me you want something I have and never show or hear from you,you are automatically on the lowlife liar list and I will never deal with you again.

I agree with every bit of what you said Highlander -very well put. Maybe it should be called the "fuck it" generation. Not all, but...

My dealings with Hambers has been 98% good, I've bought and sold parts and cars, I actually traded with another Hamber for the car I have now - we were 600 miles apart and it couldn't have went any better. I've also had 2-3 guys disappear after saying "I'll take it" - still waiting on payment from one guy who's assured me he'd "paypal on Friday"

I also had a trade deal with a guy here who told me his wife had changed her mind two days before I was supposed to meet him 300 miles away, and another who dropped out of sight after telling me he wanted to send me some more pictures (AFTER we'd already made a verbal agreement)

I feel things are not sold until I have money in hand. Until then it' SALE PENDING and I let others know where they are in line if needed. Say I'll take it and then not get back with me earns you a place on my IGNORE list. That way I know I'll never deal with you again

Now I'm seeing where the problem may have started...
I only asked if you had your (extensive) midget porn collection back up for sale, and you assumed that I "had to have it".
...maybe it was just wishful thinking on your part for a sale, that twisted reality!! hmmmmmmmm?:D

  30. guess I'm one for one with HAMBers....the "things" were both just posted stuff in a spread about stuff....the good guy sent money right away and is happy with the stuff...the other just wanted more and more and more pics...figured on the last pic request...he was just collecting pictures...
