Mercjurij you should chop your car, unchopped Mercs are getting way too common these days. Everyone that attended last years Hammers Timewarp can confirm this. JB you were there and knows what I'm talking about

Ok, I was thumbing through Rod & Custom. This chopped 40 ford caught my eye. There is something about it..........something I don't know if I like or not, but it looks like it might fit here. And it's a new build....
Guys, Torchmen's gorgeous Ford is running what I assume are 48-49 sombreros. Do you think a '51 car like mine can run those and or am I pushing the appropriateness of that old of a 'cap for a '51 car? Know what I mean?
Well, it had '53 Ford rings however Ford had the same rings in '52 as well... BUT this an old Kustom, not a new Old Style Kustom...
Are you still trying to decide on hubcaps John? Man by the time you decide you are going to own every hubcap ever used on a custom. Personally I think they would be fine.
Well Ian I have about a dozen 'caps that I've considered, bought and are now on a shelf in my garage. If I can score a complete Kaiser rear bumper guard now we're talking, that's my grail right now.
LOL when you finally decide let me know what you have left I may be looking for some myself by that time. I will keep my eyes peeled for the overrider for you.
The only sensational custom car ever with a hood emblem. The guy built exactly what he wanted. PROTOTYPE
This has been a very insightful and useful thread. I can't agree more with the choice to "go the extra" with the early drivetrain and how much of a detraction the standard SBC is. I myself am building a shoebox from the later 50's period using 55 poncho trim and a Y block. I have some questions that may prove educational for this time period of 48-52. Agreeing that the customs were all painted or destined to be painted, what types of shiny paint were available then? Was it all lacquer? Metal flake or candies didn't come into play, but were there pearlescent options? I see the use of period parts a must but that must also lend itself to the finish paint. ...plus this is up top again for more contribution of information as well as pictures...
I think theres some modern stuff under the hood but the Valencia chevy is one of the best looking customs built in the last 10 years. Hope this one is ok Kent!
Wow, it's cool to see the comparison of these two cars! JB I think yours is the closest anyone has come to the Matranga chop. The Stance is perfect too!
