Lumpy, Could be maybe, but if it was at a racetrack it would be around 67 or later but not after 74 unless it was at an airport. In 96 I was in the middle of my flying career.
I never ran Sacremento (I did watch a show there) I did run Visalia (can't remember the name of the track) around 71. At any rate HELLO to you. I will be at Indy this year to watch and say hello to all the other old farts that I haven't seen in a while. Denny Z

  2. I also belive Lumpy is mistaken.
But, Sim's Chevy II was there in 1963 as #2 It was also very competitive right out of the box. Here is a pic. of it running at Kearrney Bowl Fresno CA.

Mel Kenyon 1-14-1965, 100 lap main Vallejo, Calif.
A rock hit Mel in the chin on the 5 lap
The car was set up for another driver and it had 15 deg. of castor
Mel spoke of it after the race he said it was perfect but
a little hard to turn…. He was afraid to say anything he knew
he would win the way it was….I think that was the day we lost

.....'Lumpy95, 'Really appreciate the pics. I can confirm that 2nd row inside is Burt Foland in the Jack London Offy with the Hagemann body, GMB chassis No. #6. The pictures are from the USAC National Midget race at San Bernadino's (CA) Orange Show Speedway on September 4th, 1970. The top four in the feature race that night were, the winner, Hank Butcher, followed by Gary Ponzini, Dickie Deis and Gary Bettenhausen. Gary Ponzini had an incredible run during that time in the Sim Clark Chevy II. The following April, Gary won the USAC national championship race at Vallejo (CA) in that same car. Then, later that year in October, Hank Butcher had taken over the driving of the Sim Clark Chevy II and won another USAC National Championship race at Capital Speedway in Sacramento (CA).

I like the fact that in the background of your trophy dash picture, you can see both Sim Clark (left of Ponzini, with glasses) and car owner Jack London, 3rd from right, with glasses.

  16. Ok guys, here we go...I am proud to announce that the Winchester Old Timers will be August 20 and 21 at the World Famous Winchester high banked Speedway. We have several things that will be different this year. First of many is, NO PACE Car on vintage laps..... This does NOT mean green flag laps, just a brisker pace that in the last few years. Secondly, we will be offering laps BOTH Saturday and Sunday this year. Other things are in the pipeline which I will share as they get confirmed.<O:p</O:p
We had some things last year that did not go as planned. We found out what caused that and it has been corrected. Please contact me direct at: [email protected] with any comments or questions.
    <O:p</O:p
Charlie Shaw, the owner of Winchester Speedway has asked us to do whatever it takes to assist any vintage car owner/driver to have a pleasurable experience at the track this summer<O:p</O:p
We will also be reserving a block of rooms at the host motel for the vintage group. More details as they become available. We will be doing a mail out to every vintage car/driver that has been there in the past in the next month or so. We will be updating the Winchester Old Timers web site in the near future. Watch for info and photos from last year.<O:p</O:p
Thanks and look forward to seeing you there,<O:p</O:p

    Denny ...

One of my "friends" on Facebook recently posted the picture of you in PY's Offy on that site.

Years ago, when I was putting together a rail chassis, V8-60 midget, Ronnie Evans arranged for PY to "give" me an extra chassis, tail, cowl and vaious engine parts.

My guess was Sessions in the 55 as well. I recall the helmet from other pictures. A lot of drivers were easily identifiable by their helmets.
