I'm not much of a mechanic person, young but still learning. I found these cleaning out my shed in the backyard. I think they're scatter shields. I could be wrong, but they look to belong in the transmission category. The dirty one has 2 extra holes for bolts on the end whereas the clean one doesn't. They both also have different markings as well. Both look to be very similar aside from minor differences.. So, using the flipping new TJJ app, I'm able to post this annoying "What is this?" thread.. I know, I know. I'm sorry, but I seek enlightenment from you HAMBers and want to learn more about these parts.. So without any further ado, here are the pictures. Thank y'all for taking the time to look and possibly answer.
They're dust shields, not scatter shields. Early GM transmissions. Wanna sell em? Thanks to Mr48chev, it got me thinking they belong at the bottom of a manual trans bellhousing. Perhaps early trucks like the ADs and such, or others that used those antiquey iron bells.
I think they are the bottom cover for some model of GM 4x4 but can't remember what year they fit. The two holes in the bottom are for braces help keep the whole engine/trans/transfer from flexing so much if memory serves correct. The aren't part of a scattershield though.

Right now I'm making an inventory list of what parts I have, what I want to keep or sell, etc. I also have no idea what some of the parts I have are worth, so I have a fair bit of researching to do before I sell anything. I've also never sold anything online before, or shipped anything, so I have a lot to learn as well. I'm hoping I learn soon though, as I'm running out of room to keep all these goodies. They're just the heavy duty inspection covers from a 4 X 4, TH400 transmission. There are actually two metal support rods that attach to them. Check out E-Bay for an idea of what they're worth. You've already had HAMBERS interested, that should tell you something. Butch/56sedandelivery.
X2. The upper one (dirtier of the two) looks exactly like the one on the TH400 in my K30 truck. As noted, the tapped holes are for struts that add rigidity to the drivetrain.
Yep, all Blazer and pickup 4x4's had them on automatics -- 350, 400, 700R You can use them to replace the crappy plastic, tin or cheezy chrome louvered ones.

but they only fit 4x4 case transmission, with the large mounting holes for the covers, well. You could probably get them to fit the normal case if you tried.
So I did some more cleaning and came across this. Is this what you're talking about? It does make sense since my father and I started an AD Chevy PU project a couple years ago. The granny 4 speed is also in the shed, so I assume this belongs with it?
All right. Makes more sense now. I have a couple 4.3 V6s too, so that's probably where they came from. Thank you guys. I'll keep that in mind. What about the sheet metal dust cover? Is that from an AD Chevy?

the sheetmetal one is for an SM420. Pulled that same one off my 64 Chevy dually. It would fit on your AD since the SM was used 1947-1967, and your AD is 1949-1954.
