OT 40 years ago the Roach show concept

Any body seen this in the the last 40 years ?

This are pictures outside of, Wolverine Chassis Romulus Mich. That I took when I worked for Tom. In very early in 1974

Anybody know what this rear axle is out of ?

Yes, it's alive and well in Don Boeke, The Egyptian's private collection in Dayton, OH. I saw it a couple of years ago when I stopped to visit.

met a guy at the daytona turkey run around 6+ years ago that said he used to own it. siad he owned the red fox wrecker at some point too. from what i know, the engine and rear was from an indy type car. heard the motor blew a while ago and is too rare and costly to fix or something. also remember the guy i met in daytona had a bad ass tandem axle early 80s conversion van

The trans axle appears to be a Hewland (sp)

 

Don built the car as far as I know and it toured the show car circut for many years.

I could sworn I did a whole adventure thread on my visit to his place but I can't seem to find it. I've got alot of photos of some cool cars from my visit to his place. I'll keep searching for that thread, june of 2008.

Jim Jacobs was involved in the build - I think Don only painted it? I too heard it was non-running but was built that way from the start with a junk DOHC motor.

I worked for Tom Smith at Wolverine Chassis. It was there when I started to work at Wolverine, very early in 1974

Just from memory & the pics, the engine is a DOHC Ford Indianapolis-type (based originally on a SBF block), which later became the Foyt-Coyote Indy engine of the '70s; and the axle as mentioned appears to be a modified Hewland. If it is a Ford or Coyote, there are some sources for parts, even today, and they're not really any more expensive than any other racing parts (considering many drag racing engine budgets of $20k-30k). Steep for most of us, maybe, but not so bad in the racing scheme of things.

To me, it's no weirder than a lot of other "show" & concept cars.

That is one of those weird cars from my youth, I think Hot Wheels even came out with a version or two?

 

If you have to ask then you probably don't want to know.

The things supposedly decent folks was doing back then would give you nightmares.

I believe it was built by Jake and Dan Woods right after they had worked together at Roths. There's blerb about it in the Pete & Jakes book.

 

The 70's were GREAT! I'd go to a rock concert on Friday night and to a disco on Saturday night. Plenty of hot dudes and lots of my own disposable income. Life was GREAT!

 

And I had the ENTIRE Evel Knievel action toy collection to play with!

Maybe a ZF transaxle out of a Pantera?

 

Schwerko, more likely it's a back end or an Indy car that was crashed or obsolete, meaning the hewland not a ZF.
