We've been doing this cruise for years (since the late 80's). We all meet up for coffee & BS session. Then we hit Colorado Blvd around 9:30am- then meet at Coco's for lunch.
I'm hoping some others took pics (I saw a bunch of you guys here)
I brought the camera & forgot the SD card!

However- I did get a couple to my camera w/o card before the buffer was full.
That's Mazooma1- (Doug) in front of me. Spotted him pulled over at the turn-around & had to stop & say hi.
I followed Doug for about 2-3 miles before we got separated due to traffic & signal lights.
    Good seeing you buddy!

Note all the hot rods- it's wall-to-wall in both lanes. Doesn't get any better than that! Doug in front of me- Mike Wasser in his Olds in front of Doug, Steve Metz behind me, Larry behind Metz, Bob Klien in the left lane up ahead.

    What a morning!

  2. Back in the 60's we used to cruise New Years Eve night until they would run us off and put up the barricades. My how the times have changed. Still, wish I was there...

I did that cruise a few years ago as ballast in Don Small's Mines Field Roadster. Mike Wasser's Oldsmobile is about as sweet as it gets. Wayno

Don's a good friend of mine. He used to be in our car club until he moved.
Mike's in our club too. Small world.

We used to do the evening cruise too but it got too roudy for us old farts w/ the water balloons, silly string & shit aimed at your hot rod.

Through the late 60s we all cruised the parade route until well after midnight. Everyone was cool and nobody ever messed with our hot rods as we'd go by them at 1 mile an hour.
Then, in the later years they started to throw marshmallows and fling tortillas at all the cars, so that was the end of that (all good things in life are ruined by assholes. Then the assholes wonder why nothing is fun anymore)...
Even though the cops put a stop to it when they'd see it, there's way too many thousands of people to completely stop it.
So, no more hot rods cruising the parade route late in the evening for us.
But going for a spin in the late morning these days is fine.
The cops won't let the spectators for tomorrow's parade put their stuff (chairs, etc.) out in the street until noon. There is a blue line painted that is the edge of where they can put chairs, so it only takes away the parking lane and everyone can still drive Colorado Blvd.
The time that we cruise the route these days is when the mobs are waiting for the noon time time, so they are just hanging around and more than happy to see a bunch of hobby cars go by.
This cruise is open to anyone... rods, customs, motorcycles, low-riders, muscle cars and stuff that is very un-HAMB friendly, but all owned and driven by very friendly people.
So here's some of my photos with a wide variety of cars, so there's not much in the way of all traditional stuff, but all owned by nice folks having a good time.
    You've been warned.
There was a Cobra club that passed us going the other direction and there must have been 20 of them...not my "cup-of-tea" but still nice to see hobbiests enjoying their cars.

    Smiles are always traditional.

I thought this was a real curiosity. He's a guy who has a 20 year old station wagon and he's treating it like an old classic. Kind of neat in a way. Someday it will be really rare and if he keeps taking this kind of care of it, it will really be a real classic. Good for him!
Can you just imagine if someone would have had this foresight in 1955 or 1965????

  8. That looks like a nice mellow time. The last time I cruised Colorado it was a new years eve. in the 90's I had a '62 Olds 88 with white interior..

It was cool until about 8 or 9pm.. Thats when the tortillas and marshmellows started flying.. Damn if a tortilla to the forehead doesn't hurt like a bitch.. I was laughing about the marshmellows.... Until I got home and found that about a hundred of the little multi-colored bastards were stuck to the seats. I have no idea how they got under us.. But they did. I had a bunch of colored polka dots on the seats that you couldnt remove with a grinder.. I sold the car about a year later .. With polka dots intact..

  9. Looks like a real hoot!! Maybe next year. Great pics Guys.

Thanks for the coverage of what looks like a good time. It must be universal for a few assholes to ruin something that's enjoyed by many just being apart of whats not an everyday event. I've never understood that.:(

us folk stuck in Connecticut are extremely jelous of you guys over in Cali!!! Its going to be 50 degrees today which is virtually unheard of for the 1st of Jan in Connecticut but all of our roads are covered in salt and disgusting winter grime. Its one big tease to have this weather and not be able to go for a cruise. happy new year everyone!

What a nice way to start the new year looking over this field of excellent machinery. Holy cow some of the sweetest stuff I have seen, love that 37 Ford roadster and could single out and rave on about most of this field. Thanx for setting the tone for "11". H.N.Y. to all. ~sololobo~

the "Arroyo Seco" bridge...we crossed over it twice...built in 1915.
NOBODY calls it that...it is ALWAYS referred to as "Suicide Bridge" due to the over 100 people who have jumped off of it...I don't think I knew it's real name until about ten years ago...

Thanks for the shots. I have been watching the Rose Bowl parade on TV since I was a chump kid and now I'm passing that tradition down to my 17 month old boy Herny.

Mazooma1... is that shopping center that you met in the same one Fuddruckers was located? I drove over there many times from Simi Valley for cruise nights in late 90's. A fun place to meet and good people to share our cars with. It looks like the same lot.
