This can't be. We're just a buncha hoods who dig old hot rods...on the outside. These are the things that prop up our common bond, the things that keep me believing in people. Happy holidays to both of you and the rest of our hoodlum bretheren.

Could it be we are into cars and trucks from a generation that took pride in community, and humanity and the love of this generation in time makes us who we are.

    Great story.
I had a similar experience in November, when a total stranger rescued me when my hot rod hard broke in Oklahoma. He hauled my car all the way to AZ. I had to force him to take gas money.
This web site is the best. My experience got me off my ass and I became an alliance member. I had been putting it off for no good reason. Glad I did.

How nice...how very very nice. I had a couple of spare minutes this morning, so I logged on here hoping to find something inspirational to start my day with...found it.

Doug, I want to say something to you and others who are having a difficult time finding work. I'm 53 years old, and lost my career as a machine-tool designer to overseas outsourcing...didn't know quite what to do...labored at various jobs for a few years, making peanuts, with no good future in sight. My wife Sandy has been a nurse for over 30 years, and suggested and encouraged me to follow that path as well. Now I'm going to college to become a nurse. But it's a 2 year program, so in the meantime, I took a 2-month course to become a CNA (Certified Nurse's Aide) so I could start working and making some money. I'm now doing home-care for my 91 year old neighbors Lee and Norma who live only two farms down the road from us, and finally giving Sandy some much needed relief. She had been keeping us afloat for quite a while.

So...any of you fine folks who are having a hard time finding work might seriously consider this option. There is financial-aid available, and in two months you can be working. And you don't necessarily have to be a nurse, and have to clean up "messes" and such...you can be a physical therapist, a respiratory therapist, or any of the many different jobs available in the medical field. But be forwarned...you will laugh, you will cry, you will experience stress, happiness, love, gratitude, etc., doing the most meaningful, rewarding, and poignant work you've ever done. The baby-boom generation is a huge population, they're getting older, and need help being taken care of...you will be in great demand...male or female...and the need will be there for many years to come. There will always be work available.

God bless you, Doug...and your secret gift-giver. On second thought..."God bless us...everyone." :)

Underneath the crotchety gruff exterior hides a giant gleaming heart of gold. I never get tired of reading about stuff like this on the HAMB. This place has some serious class.

We here on the H.A.M.B. might disagree about red wheels or flat black but we are like a family we are there for each other when needed.

    Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the kind words and and the words of encouragement. It's been a tough year, but I know I don't have it as bad as some people do. I thank God that my family is safe and my kids are well. I also thank all of you. I do know that once I am back on my feet again I won't miss the opportunity to help someone else in their time of need. Thanks again everyone, and Happy New Year!

It just goes to show there are still good hearted people still walking this earth. Who ever sent it was God Bless ya.

  20. Thanks for sharing your experience. Your good samaritan experience illustrates the fact the hope doesn't come from the government, it comes from everyday people. Your gratitude goes to show that you were worthy of the gift you received.

I hope things turn around for you soon. It's tough out there right now, I know. Just, keep on, keepin' on, my friend.

I feel priveleged to be part of this HAMB community. I've had more than a few HAMBers, who were total strangers to me, help me out this past year and I can't express how much I appreciate it. There is an incredible wealth of knowledge and a whole lot of really decent people here who are willing to help out a HAMB brother or sister when they need a little help.

To all HAMBers- Thanks for making the last year a little bit more pleasant by teaching me a whole lotta stuff I didn't know before, making me laugh, helping me unwind at the end of the day, helping me problem solve, giving me ideas, inspiration, advice and motivation, and giving me the opportunity to be part of this fine community.

Have a wonderful and prosperous 2011.

After reading this thread, and seeing (HAMB)Andy Dunn's dad Chris writing this morning...
having a community of kindred spirits gladdens my heart.
If ever there was a group who could make anything...it's this bunch. I'm thinking of the concept, of made locally and how the work/income serve, and craft skills that can be apprenticed to younger people.

When I was about ten dad told me to always help people if you could, and said to never expect anything back because it will go forward, We were able to help some friends with two new sets of tires before the winter. I know that they will give forward when they can. Enjoy the HAMB and read it evry day. Happy new year.

Right on! This community is far and away the best thing on the web. The best people I've ever known in my life are the ones with grease under their nails.

Here's to things going better for you in the New Year Doug.
