how nice is to nice to hotrod

This is exactly what I would love to do with my next build. Have you guys started on this one yet?

That's definitly NOT too nice. Sell everything but the body to an "A" restorer. Chop it, touch up the weld area, and that body is done. Nice REAL patina, killer mojo. Sorry 29nash, but in my reality, some cars ARE too nice to rod. My '59 impala sport coupe has 83,000 miles, 1 repaint on a california rust free body,with one piece bumpers and seamless frame, 235 powerglide I drive can anywhere,and the best part: an all original turquoise interior that smells awesome. It's an untouched time capsule that has dodged the bullet from people who could make it "better". You can build a thousand rods,but you can't build this.

 

just about anything less than this gets the sawzall LOL

 

i feel like sometimes the car will give u a direction for a project. listen to the car.
what im saying is make it a hot rod maybe not so radical.

I just look at it as the better the bones the better the starting point!

If it were mine (and obviously it's not) I'de go with lowering, wide-whites and a flatty with old speed parts. No hackin' for now.

 

I'd rod it. It doesn't look that nice anyway. And paying the $$$ to restore it properly will cost more than it's worth restored. I would not mess with a mint-ish car. Gary

I'd say if you had any intentions of keeping it stock, you wouldn't be on this site. SELL it and get something you dont mind rodding with out having to be convinced that's what you should do. JMHO

Turn it into a HOTROD.... You will enjoy it a lot more as a HOTROD. It does't have to be radical just something that you won't have a problem keeping up with the traffic.... My 2 cents.......

 

Never had a virgin car anybody can restore a model A I think your a tease cut that damb car up it helps the value on the classics !!

 

chop it / slam it /rod the shit out of it / if you get tired of it anyone will want it stock not so much.

 

I find this quite interesting. I too have a bone stock 31 coupe. I towed this coupe home from California. The motor has a knock in it,which I think is a rod but not sure. I am facing a similar decision. Fix it drive it or rod it
The fact is if I had more time and less things in front of it I would rod it in a minute.

 

I have 3 model A`s and to fix it origional you are looking at a lot of money the little things add up. i would build a 50`s style rod with a flathead and keep the fenders and the roof line. Then ride it and enjoy!!! and of course get rid of the mechanical brakes!

 

my dad has a restored one, good for pictures but boring as hell to drive.

I was going to box the frame, IFES, PB, PS, coilovers and orange crate a 1930 Studabaker that was a Senior winner but it sold at auction before I could get to it. The price was right for the work that I would not have to do . $10,00,0 I would have been way ahead.

IMO, it's perfect to hot rod. Would you be happy driving it "as stock"? Likely not. That's why people started hot rodding them.
