...and who can help me with the name of the driver standing at the rear of that shot? He looks a lot (to me) like Richard Seaman, but I can't imagine what he would be doing in this setting.

By the way - season's greetings to my very favourite thread-folk: one of the very friendliest cyber groups I know.
All the best for the New Year to you, too.:):)

He's identified as Renato Balestrero in other shots from this session in the Duce's garden at the end of the 1932 season. Ducey looks so smitten with the P3 he's probably thinking about nationalizing Alfa Romeo right there.

Best wishes to you too and happy trails in the SN

    Mac,

I'm trying to find everything i can about the Ford Montier Specials but information is hard to come by. I need to find the owner of the restored Le Mans 'Gaillon' Model T but this is proving difficult too.

Learn all about Charles Montier and his Ford creations here.. http://www.ford-t.fr/articles.php?Ing=fr&pg=282 and hit translate at the bottom of the page.

  19. Looks very "bugatti-esque"- best of luck finding more info!

Have you tried the Ford Museum or Speedy Bill? They may have some answers.

I don't know who or what his inspiration was with the design but I've always thought some of it came from Peugeot or Chenard & Walcker. Certainly the color and the tall grille shell have some similarities. The drivetrain however is pure Montier. Owner designed full crankshaft oiling, reportedly very different to a typical American system, hydraulic brakes, OHV 8 plug head and a revised suspension. This is the setup in the car pictured above. I'd like to think he was the French version of the Chevrolet brothers.

I didn't get a response from the museum although i wasn't suprised. Montier didn't receive any recognition from the company during and after his exploits with the brand which is obvious since we all know about Henry's dislike for motor racing but there is also little mention of him in regards to the number of car sales made during his tenure as the sole distributor in Paris.

    I haven't tried Speedy...that's a good idea. Thanks.

Interesting link and pictures Kurtis, I notice all those cars have mechanical brakes and the museum car only has a passing resemblance to anything pictured. I wonder what's under the hood or if it's just a museum prop.

This 33 is a pretty car...

  22. Yeah, Henry was a bit of a pill when it came to racing/customizing/etc- poor Edsel had to hide his personal cars in a shed!

Hmmm, you mentioned a tall shell- is it taller than a stock T shell (it looks like it is,but that may just be an illusion)???

there are 2 sizes of "black iron" T radiators. 26/27 are smaller. I dont know what years are what sizes.

  24. Fur B- take a look at that shell... doesn't it look even taller than a "tall" shell?

If it IS just a tall T shell, it really looks good!

Me too! That radiator shell does look like it is taller than a 26-27 shell. Did Montier make an overhead conversion for the Ford A & B block called a "Record" head or was that made by someone else in France?:)

Another aspect of the Montier cars i'm looking into is when exactly did he adopt hydraulic brakes or if at all. One French article mention's he did design his own non mechanical brakes but i doesn't say when.

Yes, the 1933 Special is a great looking peice and is the one that originally spurned my interest.

Yes, it's a taller grille shell/radiator of his design. Body by Weyman.

    Bob,

There is no mention of Montier designing a cylinder head for the Model A. There are however two RECORD heads, one is an American design and the other is either French, Italian or Norwegian. I have never seen the latter version.
