Happy Christmas Geoff I always look forward to seeing what your newest model is - you always seem to catch the essence of hot rodding
So it was the day before Christmas, my plan was to work on models for the next 3 days. Christmas day in our house these days is very quiet, a chance to reflect on the year past. To vist the cemetry where mum and dad now lay, as well as a number of old friends who are also there. My model building is probably the thing that brings me the most peace these days. Didn't get any models for Christmas, but then again I have been buying myself 'model' Christmas gifts all year! So what have I got done this last couple of days. Have been messing with a 1/8th resin long term project, that I will keep under wraps for now. This year I have bought a lot of 1/18th diecast stuff from an ebay seller in South Carolina. MY last purchases arrived a week ago. So I decided to make a start on another couple of projects ( like I need to start on more new projects!). Firstly is a Road legends '32 3W. I won't go into details and it is only mocked up in this images! The next one is the black Ertl '32 5 window. Got a few of these in yellow in their boxes. But when I got the black one ( at a good price ), it was the one that I knew I would do a channeled coupe out of. A long way to go, but I am most pleased with it. In the interests of not messing up here and losing all of what i just wrote and showed I will make a new post for my next model! Geoff aka whodaky
For any of you guys who have been frequenting the Sunday Models thread for a number of years. You may have seen this one before. I started this build many years ago and got it to the stage shown in the 4 images below. It is a model of the late Jim Ewing's Superbell Axle Company coupe. It is based on the Ertl 1/18th diecast '34 3W ( see image below ). I hand formed the track nose and 3 piece hood in aluminium. I have never liked the way the chop is out of the box on this coupe. For that reason my Superbell coupe has sat on the shelf unfinished for so long. I must admit I do like the look of the coupe with it's polished front panels though. I will post this and continue in a new post! Geoff aka whodaky
OK, moving right along. With the completion of my recent build of the light blue '34 3W, as seen with Santa in my first post of this thread. I had addressed the issue of the ugly chop on these coupes out of the box. So now I knew I could make my Superbell coupe look much better in the roof. So that is one of the things I have been doing the last couple of days. Just basically chopping the rear of the roof more and getting the doors to fit the 'new' chop. I am hoping that I can stick with this build and complete it in the next couple of months!
Merry Christmas Geoff. Kind of miss not yakking with you in the HAMB chat for a while. Your Bell Super Coupe model is way over the top. If you find you want to see some upclose detail shots, let me know and I will run up Frank Morawski's house and take some pics of the real deal for you. This is outrageous
Resin, chopped '37 Chevy body from Drag City Castings. Scratchbuilt skirts, Caddy caps, detailed 6 banger, '41 Chevy truck headlights. Going for late 40's-early 50's custom look.
I have always liked dragsters from early sixties, where a couple of guys could pool their resources and go racing with a minium amount of money. I built this dragster to represent a low buck B/D project. The chassis is made from Evergreen plastic tubing, with a hand formed aluminum body. Front axle is from an old Revell parts pack. Olds engine came from AMT's 40 Ford Sedan. Six carbs from AMT's 25 T., with home made linkage.
The front axle assembly is from an old Revell Parts Pack. I think it is the best early Ford axle the model companies ever made. It would be great if Revell would reissue these parts packs again.
Great work guys & Merry Christmas! Here's what I've been up lately, the third one for this year (if I can finish it within the week). It's supposed to be the 1963 Galaxie S/S, Tasca Ford with decals from Decals By Lucas, here´s a few pix: Starting point, AMT 1963 Ford annual kit. And here's where I am right now: When in progress I felt like the grille could be improved so I cut off the bumper to paint it aluminum as a lightweight part from FoMoCo. Also cut out the chromed headlight bezels and replaced them with glass from Revell's Thunderbolt. Front tires and all wheels comes from the T-bolt as well + the front seats. Rear slicks is also Revell items, but from Beatnik Bandit. Hope to show the finished build next Sunday! Happy new year to all!
