Hello all, What engine is in your car? Is it by choice or Just what you got your hands on? I imagine there is a few Flatheads and a bunch of SB Chev engines. What kind of power do you think is a must(say for a model A)? personal views would be great. Thanks

Hey Badfish , you can't go wrong with a HEMI in anything without a hood. I like anything different like nailheads , Olds Rockets , full house flattys and such. No SBC's though unless it's an early 283-327 :D

I'll be running a 383 MoPar in a Model A just 'cause I got a couple layin' 'round. Most guys tend to run what they already have. :)

Model A Ford with '32 rails is the car i'm wondering about. Its looking like I'll be getting a Chev 350 I have my eyes on. Sb Fords seem to be running a bit higher in price then a comparable Chevy. some later Flatheads interest me.. I don't know that much about them. I know I would never put New pickups in a vintage Fender Stratocater guitar. I imagine I would dig a good running flathead in a Model A. I need to get my hands on something soon... I keep tripping over SB Chevys! They are everywhere.

    W motor for shizzle.

that's how we roll. *Insert crazy gang sign*

348 cubic inches of pure death with a solid cam and lifters. 180 degree headers and 3 2's.

\That motor I just described to you will be going in an A sedan.

Yeah, everyone runs sbc's though. Run a straight six with an Offy and Fentons for the crazy sound, man! They're usually dirt cheap as well...

Putting a 59-60 Olds 394 with hydro tranny. My choice(thanks to creeper larry) cause I was gonna run an early 60's inline chebby, but figured what would go better in a 27 Olds?

I've got a 59 283, bored to 301 in my 55 Chevy. My 60 Impala has a tripower 348. Also I've got a dual quad 331 Cad, to put in a Model A, if I ever get an A to put it in.

My shoebox has the 223 6cyl, with a 292 y-bock on the back burner
    '51 F-1 will have a 327
future model a project will have a Merc 383 I have in the shop.

I think for a hot rod it has to have enough power to keep from emberassing yourself constantly. You can't win all the grudge matches but you should be able to hold your own against...oh...a honda or something.

for a kustom... it doesn't matter as long as they can cruise down the highway decently.

Ironically my shoebox's 3.7L 6cyl is rated at the same hp as my bike's .6L 4cyl.

Well, mine is a Ford, so it's Ford powered. After the flathead was gone, a 390 FE was installed. Now we have different plans for the 390, and the car is now powered by a 351 Windsor.

    I got a 292 Y block in my 64 F100. Since it's my daily I'm putting a 351w in it. I got plans to put the Y block in a 37 ford truck.

The Y blocks are pretty cheap and make some decent power. Much cooler looking than a SBC too.

Putin' a 327 in a '56 desoto 4 door. Car has no motor and I have a 327 so it's the only logical thing to do.Dunno the HP but its 30 over, port n polished heads, and roller rockers. To bad it doesnt still have the hemi in it.:(
