Sad story, AND one that reoccurs with troubling regularity! Old cars aren't "safe," be it in the U.S. or Canada! Look forward to more pix. THANKS!

This pic was snapped in 1957. It amazes me that most
cars in this pile were barely a decade old! I borrowed
this pic from an eBay site, so it's probably right for me
to repay the favor by mentioning that it's available as an
8X10" print from a seller called "khiramaddie" in Oregon.
If interested just search the ebay topic: "1957 photo Pile
of discarded automobiles in a junk."

Hey, CadillacJerk, is that a Graham or a Willys?
Hard for me to tell at the angle & without trim.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, not too many of the "Sharknose" were made, as car buyers in the U.S. didn't like it. Europeans, especially the French, loved it. But it was the second to-last-nail in Graham's coffin. When Graham came back after the war, they opted for their leader's name, Frazer, in large part to distance the "new" company from the failed Sharknose and Hollywood. I surely hope SOMEBODY saved that "Spirit of Motion" Graham!

ToddC, yes, I think there are TWO Lincoln Cosmos in the pile,
    an Olds 88, a couple of '47ish Dodges, a second-gen Kaiser,
'46ish Ford, a shoebox Ford, Chevy Fleetline, and several
where I couldn't see enough to say. Anybody feel free to
correct or clarify makes/years! AMAZES me that most of
these cars were only about 10 years old, and THERE they in
a junk pile (maybe a burn pile?).

Great, Meatball, but what's the gas station got to do with a thread about junk yards?

THANKS, django! Lots of people have contributed vintage
and new pix in the last year -- from all U.S. states and from
many other countries. You'd probably also enjoy Royalshifter's
thread, "Sitting and Rotting.....picture thread ." Somewhat
similar theme, except it's not only oldies siting in junkyards.
It's about cars with project potential in MANY different settings,
mostly rusting away. LOTS of keen pix!!!

Merry Christmas, fellow HAMBers! Last year, it was a "Best
of Old-time Junkyards" thing. Recession's still on, Christmas
may be slim for many, so all some folks have is each other
... and HOPE. Let's just show junked & abandoned cars in SNOW
to help celebrate both Christmas AND the vehicles we HAMBers
love! Here's Day-1, from various sources. I've tried to give
    credit where due, folks!

    Merry Christmas, one and all!

Somehow snow just makes the waste seem peacful, doesn't it?
    Another classic from Dog429. Masterful!

Here are some choice ones HAMBers have posted lots of places.

Thanks, mate! About 7, I'll put Day 3 of THE BEST winter junkyard cars on here -- meaning ones I ran onto lots of places on the 'net in 2010, HAMB material included.

According to my dad it's no different that it is now. You wouldn't think twice about junking a 2000 cavalier. He really regrets trading in the bubbletop Impala. But like now days many people don't know jack about cars easier just to get a new one!

esmith, it's a good point you made, YES.

The only real difference in the equation is that car guys (like me) would not junk anything they didn't absolutely HAVE to. If we all had a farm in the family to go put our oldies up on blocks or, BETTER, in a barn, then a lot of us would be rich or at least have plent of keen cars to keep us busy!

Jeesh. Just off hand, thinking of cars we've owned or had a chance at (cheap!) and had to junk, pass on or sell included '31 Dodge 2D running ($300), '23 Stude "Big 6" ($500), '50 Hudson Super 6 running, '62 Stude Hawk w. TwinTrac & BW 4-speed, '75 Duster, '51 Olds 98, '56 DeS Firedome Hemi, '56 Crown Vic + running parts car ($400). I have to stop there or I'll be sick. And that 's only a quarter of the list ...

This gorgeous winter scene was apparently shot at Woolcock Antique Auto. I could not find more info.

Thanks, WQ! If I'm not mistaken, it's the Clipper tail lights the CUSTOM guys like, am I right?

I'll have Day-4 wintertime junkyard shots posted here at 7:00 E.S.T., for those HAMBers who like oldies & junkyards -- WITH a Christmas dose of SNOW!

Frankie, GOOD to see you back on here for Christmastime!

Enjoyed the "Old Cars" piece on the Wisconsin yard, where the fella hasn't crush ANY cars out! We need more like him!

That Hemmings piece is great too! The '58 sedan-delivery just sitting there for decades is AWESOME. One commentator said the "super secret" yard is in Virginia. Given the deciduous trees, I figured it for north of the Mason-Dixon Line and east of the Mississippi. So I was partly right. LOL

Wowee, looks like somebody's at least trying to bring this '58 2-door
long roof back. I think I'd have bought a breathable tarp for the winter,
    though!

The DamnYankee post is on this thread, but it's long and MORE than well worth a look & read (pix AND memories!). It's scary to this that the guy might never have written it all down! Then the unique peak into a window in time would simply have been LOST. I'm glad he went to the trouble of recording his memories and saving the unique photos!!! Awesome stuff, and thanks, Frankie, for running it through this MEMORIES thread again!

Frankie, I am thankful you found Mt. Goat Leonard's article on Mountain Park Junk Yard which is located in the woods between Route 91 and Route 5 north of Cedar Knob, Massachusetts (apparently near Holyoke, if I understood). The place was cut off by "development" several decades ago; and though the vehicles are pretty far gone, it's one of those places that are great to spend an afternoon in, reflecting about the vehicles, and the long-dead people who planned and built them, plus the souls who made them part of their lives AND livelihoods!

In fact, the folks who RESPONDED to his original post on the internet SAY it better in their own words than I can. Even those alone make it another one WELL worth the time to open and read! Thanks, Frankie!
