I have a snotty 406 at the shop right now. Splayed steel mains, scat crank and rods, Dart heads, fuel injected tunnel ram, twin turbo, street motor. All I need to finish it is pistons right now. Should make 750hp on pump gas with no problems.

Well, you know how it goes...The great debate. 3 versions... 330817,3951509 and 3951511 maybe even one more. I have a 2 bolt 509 with center freeze plug untapped. I'll correct myself, early 70s I myself think is the best. :) I can only assume this comparing them along side with the 70- 74 350 & 454 blocks with high nickel content. another, this is what the mortec website said before it went down.

    3951509....400...70-71...4

I've had three 509 blocks, all of which had two bolt mains.

If I'm going to use a stock block for a race motor, the 509 is the one I look for ('cause you can't put splayed caps on a four bolt).

You can break 'em (I've only got one of the three left ;) ), but you've gotta work at it.
