rebstew187, school me on "cozies"?? I was planning on doing the front doors electric and the old "reach around" (haha) for the rear doors. The trunk???? Any ideas or suggestions would be great!

On another note, I have decided to paint the car back to its original color green. From the beltline up, I was thinking about white with some abalone green micro flake with a little pearle in it. What does everyone think about that?

  2. Great work! And great color combination! U make me so jealous. This is an awesome build!

Thanks for the compliments, but nothing to be "jealous" of here and besides, you will be tearing shit up in no time!

I never liked to use electric. Seems like alot of guys I know had problems with them. Last few I did I set the inside handle so it was easier to reach and then I could just open up my cozy wing and open the door. That's if the windows are not down, which they mostly are in the summer. There are 2 problem with this. The cozy wings have locks. If you forget and pull your lock down you will be locked out. You have to take that lock off the cozy. Which is just a small pin. Second problem is that if you drive in colder weather the cozy seems to whistle when you have all the windows closed from air trying to get in where you can't lock it to seal it.
A couple weeks ago I came up with this idea and made a video tech. Some don't like it because it's not fully smooth. I like it myself. I know you have already done the shave on the doors but the trunk could be done this way.

Finished up with a little more sanding and shot some primer on it to see what it looks like. I think the headlights need a little more work, but everything else turned out great! Still needs to be blocked and sanded a couple of times, but I am pleased with how everything came out. Here are a few pics of it in primer.

Hey Rob, man we have a lot in common. I have 4 kids (3 still at home), 2 grandkids, and am building a mild custom 4-door '51 Styleline. I elected to do a frame-off since this is my first project, I'm going to school on this baby. I also take online lessons on the HAMB! Started my project in fall '06, at my current rate it'll hit the road in 2 years.

Great job both on the Chevy and on finding the time to work on it!! Watching with great interest.

BrerHair- you hit the nail on the head! Finding time to work on it is the biggest problem! And money too! Family comes first in my book, I am hoping to get alot more done after the holidays. Why don't you start a build thread on your car so we can all follow along? Its great to see a father and son project!

Car is looking great. You and racrdad could be professional bodymen. I think your color concept sounds perfect. Can't wait to see more.

I dont know about professional but we aint scared of anything! If you work at anything long enough you can get there. Had a great time at Robleticia's house. His wife is the best! I bring my 4 kids with me and she makes sure all mine and theirs stay outta trouble and are fed. We just go in the garage and get after it. Oh yeah, if you are even near Robleticia's house on a Sunday morning he is the breakfast cook and the tacos are BadAss!!! Pass the Cholula please.....:D

Oh, so Doug brings that Aggie-engineered aspect to the project! :D

Hey Doug, how about a quick peak at the Belvedere?

Haven't done my own build thread because I'm going so agonizingly slow. I mean, who could hang in there for 6 years?

Dimebag--Louisiana is the closest one. Its all good here until the summer when its 105 degrees and 100% humidity and the mosquitos are the size of humming birds!

Brerhair--Start the build thread, it doesnt matter how long it takes. And when you are done you will have something cool to look back on with your son. I mainly did mine for myself for the same reasons. There are some more pics of the Belvedere that Racrdad hasnt posted yet, I think after we work on it this weekend he will post some more on his thread, and hopefully a video of the first test drive!

Not only that, If you post up your thread, your account of your experiences may help out someone else who is cranking along on their own project.

Man man man I just read thru this entire thread and now I am itching sitting here at work wanting to leave and get home to work on my 50 Buick. I am subscribing to the thread and will probably "borrow" a few of your ideas, if you don't mind of course.

The '50 Buick has the absolute best all-time front grille, hands down!! Just a bitchin'-lookin' car, even stock. Matter of fact, it is so '50's cool that it has a spot at the Smithsonian American History museum. Saw it there recently while visiting my daughter in D.C. In fact, I'll go ahead and say it, it is way cooler than a '51 Chevy, IMHO. But, we got what we got, right Rob?

    nickey,

head light trim rings were mig welded on. Just make sure you clean all the chrome off and start your weld on the fender and roll it into the ring to try and keep from blowing holes in them. They are thin so take your time. i would love to see some pics of your car, are they on here?
