Got this Willys Overland Whippet several months back. Its been pretty cut up and pieced together in it's lifetime. But I loved the look and the challange. Am in the process of rehabing the doors, so that they are functional (they were bolted shut) and re pinning them in the hinges. Also adding a steel tube structure for flooring and to tie the whole body together (front section and rear tub were just bolted to a piece of plywood, when I got it). The plan is to retain the origional look, while beefing up the structure and frame. Change rear end and rear suspension setup, rear tires and wheels. Will do a nice interior and keep the red spoke front wheels. Have not decided on the engine, just yet. Could be a nail head, or 289/302 or even an Inline Chevy 292. Just not sure yet. Anyway, lots to do, but lovin my play time on the project !
I really like the way the doors work into the cowl - that will be a fun little build! Welcome to the HAMB. Are you going to find a Whippet grille shell? I always thought those were cool as hell too.
The lines of that cowl are awesome, and the windshield chop is perfect. I'd like to see the front wheels brought back somewhat toward the radiator shell, though. It's a bit T-bucketish as it sits. For some reason, this one is crying out for an inline six to me. Given that it's a Willys, have you considered an AMC/Jeep 258? -Dave
Actually, i will probably have to push the radiator forward (have 5 inches to spare) for about any V8 and especially an inline. Dont have the body set (on the frame) yet, either. So lots of room to play and balance. Dont know much about the AMC inline, might have to look into that.
I love the curve at the top of the dash/lower windshield frame, that's a nice line-got any full shots of that dash? Wondering what that looks like...Way cool so far! EW
i kind of like the way the lil car sits to nice lines , an inline 6 with dual carbs would be shweeet , hope for some more photos as you work on your car
