A few years ago, I spent a week at "Ranche De Tardel" learning the basics of building a flathead Ford. More recently, I dove into my own flathead that featured a...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Well I love that 39 and I love Flatties so I am subscribed.......lol.........good luck Ryan and oh yeah I would be happy with that intake for X-mas........ Merry X-mas !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take notes and write a book...................but share with us first I rebuilt my first (one of two) flathead a mere 50 years ago at the age of 16. My mentor was a 60 something year old guy that had been racing flatheads since before WWII. After I drove the '29 model A that it went in through high school and two years of college I got bit hard by Bowtie Fever and have never recovered. Frank
Wish I was there looking over your shoulder and learning from the masters...good luck ....looking forward to your updates...Jack
Cool thread. Is there an alternator available that can be hidden inside an OE generator shell? Good luck with the project, Ryan, et al. Is it fair to assume you're driving it back to Texas when it's done?
I thought I saw an alternator on that motor, but must have been mistaken Seriously though, it will be interesting to follow this one. Not that I have ever had anything to do with flathead motors, but I can understand the feeling you must be experiencing. Good luck, Mark.
Looking forward to following along this week -- Thanks! Yes, I believe there is tech on here on how to do it... and also, a rather expensive one available aftermarket: http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/powergen.html Malcolm
That is a once in a lifetime experience and I'm sure you'll cherish it for the rest of your days. I'm only a little bit jealous. Just a little. Infantesimal. Miniscule. Okay. A lot.
That thing is just as pretty on the inside as it is on the outside. I used to walk right by a flatty. Now i am finding myself obsessed with them. I guess the Gospel has made me a believer.
I love the fact that you keep that Flathead and drive it every day. I'd have to put some new glass in that thing though. It's just too sinister to be dirtied up by delaminated glass. Can't wait to follow along this week. JH
Did you just willingly put a pic of yourself on the HAMB?? Awe, you're growing right before our eyes.... I love the idea of driving a flathead powered vehicle daily. I think they're as reliable as anything as long as they not to "Hot" of a motor. My Merc used to crank up cold mornings and used to get me where I needed to be. They're a little more fussy but that's where the fun lies. Your '39 is rad, and I love the tire and wheel combo.
What a cool trip, man ya just can't hide anywhere, as you were spotted on the way. I can feel the mojo of the V.T. Ranch I can feel the good vibe thru the screen. I am happy that Silva and Joyo are in your troop, I am sure you are all havin a great experience. Love the set of pix in the shop! A little shot of the 39's front end at The Revolution. ~sololobo~ p.s. Harrison, thats not dirtied up with the delaminated glass, its purtied up.
Seems like a long drive to rebuild a Flathead. Any reason you didn't just take the motor or is there othere work being done to the car?
It's crazy to see your car sitting at the Tardel Ranch... It was back in Texas just a few days ago! BTW- Are you gonna drive it home to break it in??
Not to get all emotional or sappy but does anyone else think that Ryan's flathead powered looks "at home" at the ranch? It looks like when you set a captive born bear or tiger free. Just very natural setting for that car.
