I remember that hill in the background of those pictures.Had to hold the tops of your coolers over you head to keep from being hit in the head by someone throwing beer bottles down on the crowd!!! They were upset because their guy lost a race and someone cheered!!! Boy those were the days.

Who won B/SR in 61? I own a car that was there, but not sure who won the class. The car I own is the CONFUSION 34 roadster. What car did your friend have?

  10. Yep!

Still has the lettering as seen in the Color Photo from around 1965.

Orginial owner and '61 National Winner still has the car.

I will pay good money for any printed pictures of Sneaky Pete Robinson and his #51 Southwind dragster...I'm also interested in his catalogs, magazine articles, etc...I've been so obsessed with his career that I have the Southwind dragster tattooed on my forearm...

the car in my avatar was ed's first real dragster that i was building a repro of (with his permission) but finally had to give up and sold the parts. 6 twos, mag (from MTs challenger) and all m/t internals from '59. was a dream for 30 years. maybe this car would be easier (labor, $) to build.

Thanks for posting those photos. Seeing those pictures of "Sneaky" Pete Robinson brought back memories of that race. One thing I remember about that race is the three hours or more that it took to get out of the parking lot at indy after the race was over.

I love the internet and Google. There are some wonderful links to stories about Sneaky Pete and his innovations. Thanks again for the reminder.

I believe that car had a two page feature in Hot Rod when they had the green pages.

The best thing about it all is that NHRA was still running real hot rods. Most of the cars pictured, including the FED's were probably built in somebodys garage, not a multi-million dollar facility. If only we had that today, when anybody could race.

    Pretty cool pics. Thanks.
I had some video I'd copied from 8mm home movies of the 1957 World Series of Drag Racing. I'd borrowed the film from my boss at the time and copy shot a copy for him and me.
Unfortunately, I lent my copy to to a friend and his house got robbed.
They took the VCR (this was before DVDs) and the tape was in it.
