JBull, Your picture with the 26 of Paul Radford and the blue 01 car, I think the 01 was owned by Zervakis but the fellow leaning in front of the 01 is Sonny Hutchins. Both of em part of the down south gang that we raced with and respected, during the Eastern Bandit Days I considered em good friends. Denny Z

Photo 7272, the Z1 should be Lee Hendrickson, I am guessing the 13 was Sam Beavers back then. Nice photos from Reading.....

Lew in his pinto in the infield at Islip alongside Bobby Holmberg in the 9A coupe...I believe Lou's pinto was Ford powered as well...

The man in the T-shirt is my Father, George Meade Sr. He owned the 9A

The #23 Pinto is not Lou Henessey! That is a Connecticut car driven by
"The Late Great" George "Moose" Hewitt.

If I had what Donald Trump has, I would buy a mall, tear it down, and rebuild Danbury.

After that, buy a golf course and re-create Bridgehampton.

The 06 coach was a Frank Conway car and I recall that it was a Chrysler body. Frank drove it for the better part of a season at Islip (1970 maybe?) and had Gene Bergin drive it at Langhorne the same year. Jerry Bartlett bought this car and one of the mechanics at his ambulance company was a big FE Ford fan so they had 427 Fords for power. Lew got hooked up with Jerry and began driving which lasted until 1974 or 75 when Lew left and Georgie Brunnhoelzl began driving for Jerry.

For someone who never drove a race car before, Jerry Bartlett ran good right from the start.

Great news for vintage modified owners and fans.

Autodrome Granby is organizing their first Vintage National to coincide with the 50th birthday of the track. To help celebrate Airborne Speedway is jumping on board to make it a 2 night 2 country affair(yes you need a passport, and yes you have more than enough time to get one). Racing will take place on July 29th in Granby Quebec, and on the 30th in Platsburg NY. Tow monies will be offered by both tracks and all vintage mods are welcome. Granby is a 1/2 mile clay oval(winner of the DIRT track of the year award this year) and Airborne is a 1/2 mile paved oval. Those in need of more info please contact me.

Denny, You are correct about Sonny Hutchens in the 01 at Martinsville. And George thank you for the clarification on Moose Hewitt in the #23.

  21. Today is something different, but don't think you'd mind. Someone mentioned they'd bring back Bridgehampton Road course a few days ago. Well today, I stopped by the old place, part of the track is still there at the golf course and some of the flag/spotter stand still are there!!! Here they are a piece of History long gone, a shame, I only remember seeing a little action at this track, mostly motorcycles at the time we passed.

This site is way too cool! 368 pages of this stuff?!? I'm on P.8... I guess I can finish looking when I retire....
Love the wild creativity of these homebuilt cars. Nowadays they're all the same.... oh well.....
