I had seen pictures of this place, but I finally got to see it in person over the weekend. This is an old Desoto dealership that was restored, complete with a fully stocked parts counter with original parts and accessories. The guy uses it to store his personal car collection. I think it is really impressive. He shows it off an an open house once or twice a year.

 

Thats really cool. Great thread to start the morning off with.

 

Many thanks to that guy for preserving a little bit of automotive history - the building and its appurtenances and the cars.

Wow...just awesome.

 

Especially considering what today is. 50 years ago the last Desoto rolled of the line. Nice to see that they're still alive as a part of American history.

Any building with that much glass brick across the front of it deserves to be saved and restored. Obviously a labor of love and a great way to display his collection.

It's fun to use, the results are a bit unpredictable and it's kind of addictive.

 

I do like that! I'm going to load that on my home computer and try it. I could do a story where I go out and take old looking pictures and convert them in that ... eeeee, all kinds of possibilities!

 

What a neat building and the restoration is great.

My Dad bought a blue and white '53 DeSoto new... similar to the yellow 4-door in the first picture.
I turned 5 that year and calculated (?) that by the time I was old enough to drive it would be time for him to pass it along to me.... sooo... to make sure that happened I carved my initials in the wood grained dash

The Old Man wasn't happy.

I didn't get the car when I turned 16, either.

It is cool, if you guys are coming thru Clinton MO. it is some thing you need to see. there is also a restored DX station that is great. Jim opens Downtown Desoto to the public on july 4th weekend and again at the end of November. Jim owns a local dealership and into restorations but he likes anything that is old.

I took some pics of the building last year on the way back from KC. I'd love to see the inside sometime. I also took some pictures of the old restored DX station on the other side of the square, but I may have accidently deleted them on my computer.

Yeah, he told us to go look at that. There wasn't anyone around, but it was really impressive. I guess I didn't take the best picture, but it gives you an idea. We looked through the windows, and the shelves were stocked with DX promotional stuff, there was an old wrecker in the service bay, and what looked like a '53 Buick under a cover. Good stuff! Clinton--who knew?
