I'm only 46 years old (about half the age of the average Hamber).
So,,in 1981 I bought a '68 Chevy pick up. Lowered it and painted it in Autobody Class,,worked on it a year,,sprayed it a pearl white with med blue along the lower body line. Cut out the center divider in the grille and made a tube grill.
Later I moved to a '66 Nova SS,,,did some street racing. I ended up addicted to the little Novas and had about 11 through the years.

I had several but these are the two that I wish I had kept. 1957 4-door Belair, 283 with Powerpack heads and powerglide. 1976 Monte Carlo with buckets and floorshift auto. Bought both when I was 15 (1989)the Monte used to be my Grandmothers. Sold them both to pay for college. It was a good investment but I still hated to see the blue one go. I said when I sold it "I would have another old vehicle." And I have done that but it has taken some time.

How about a 61 Tempest wagon in sky blue with white walls, skirts and a 389 sliced in half ? But I had to have that chrome tailpipe extension, the Cal Custom 1 bl air cleaner and a chrome valve cover none the less.

my first car was a 57 Ford 4 door sedan that cost a whopping 60.00
second was a 59 ford custom coupe that i bought for 50.00 then put the 57 engine in it . then i built my first hotrod when i was 16 and 17 a 49 ford club coupe that was given to me . i bought a parts car with a rebuilt 53 255 merc for 50.00 and used it in the 49 along with a 64 ford 3 speed and a set of 4.10 gears it ran pretty good . next was a 63 Galaxie 500 XL convertible with a 406 tri power and 4 speed , dam I wish i had that one now . I sold it when I was a senior in 72 and bought a 56 F100 and still have it today its amazing how cheap we could put together a car back then lol

Living in northen Maine on Loring AFB, I went to Limestone High.
My first car was a 62 Buick Special 4 door. The car was pretty rusty but ran good. Bought it for $125. Had a nice little 215 V8.
Later, my Dad came across a 65 Impala SS with a 283. The car was pretty clean and had only been in Maine 2 years. I got it for $350, drove it to California when we moved back in 1975. That was a sweet car!

1962 Nova convert. Paid $35.00 for it .straight 6 with a 3 on the tree. My dad helped me put a new J.C. Whitney top on it,One Continental glass pack muffler, and new ball joints. A set of used corvair monza hubcaps and a perforated vinyl steering wheel wrap finished her up. The top never fit quite right and it was a little breezy in the winter but my buddies and I did'nt ride the bus to school anymore.

'57 Ford Fairlane 2dr HT. Nosed, decked, shaved, black on black with chrome reverses and baldies, tube grill, '58 Ford back bumper, Cad-LaSalle crashbox. Always wanted something older during high school, but it beat walking.

A green 70 GTO, I paid $ 3600 bucks for it, beat the holy shit out of the ol girl for three years, and was so proud of myself for getting $ 5300 for it when I left for the service in 1989...the guy I sold it to rolled it about a year later. That car would be worth big bucks today. Later

'30 model A roadster with a little red ram hemi. Looked cool but wasn't fast. Then I started my love affair with '40 fords, and 43 years later I'm still driving '40's.

A good cross thread will beat a lock washer any day!

I graduated in 1968 and my first car was a 1952 Chevy Belair. I paid $200 for it and it came with vinyl fake roll and pleated seats. I paid $75 for the custom green paint job that everyone hated but me. I drove it for 3 years until the seats were split and falling apart and it had the 2nd closed rear end under it. The car I am building, 42 years later is almost its twin and once finished I'm going to go looking for my high school sweetheart and a drive in movie (major sigh......)
