... and in OZ the soarers which all originated in Japan were limited to 180kph , you have to be a comp geek to get them to go like the US versions :D:D

Speed is relative to what you're driving. 85 in an M-151 is hauling ass! I went 95 in an early MG Midget once....scared the PISS outa me. Fastest I ever went was 147 in a 1970 Olds Cutlass, with a 455 and 2.56 gears. Didn't feel nearly as fast as 95 in that Midget though.

300 hp 327, 3 speed stick, 30 inch tires and 3.55 gears. That thing was singing at about 5500 rpm and climbing

drag racing snowmobiles we could do 100mph in 500 feet on snow. Its literally point and shoot. You gotta ride the hell outta em once you leave the launch boards. Track digs into the snow and the skies dont hit till ya let off. Good fun!

160mph in a Ferrari around Pocono Raceway with a firesuit & an ENG Camera on my shoulder. (ENG - Equipment News Gathering) I was shooting video at the time for a video production on Ferraris, Maseratis and Lamborghinis. Would have been more fun driving!:)

In my 55 Chrysler coupe 331 Hemi 118 mph on a long strech of the 400 series highway in Ontario. My buddy pulled up beside me in his 56 New Yorker and we sort of just let the cars go. I got very loose at that speed and backed out of it thinkin wow a lot of the shit on this car is still original what if?? Made it to the car show in record time though and wouldn't do it again either. Low N Slow is good for me now..lol

Not Hamb friendly but my daily driver is a modified 2007 VW jetta 5 cyl w/aftermarket turbo and software. It has been 146mph. Hamb friendly, in 1966 I owned a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere 318cu.in. with a 3 spd floor shift and a rear with wicked high gears that set/held the land record (for it's class) in the mid 60's. One of the previous owners ran it. The record tag was mounted on the dash when I bought it.

I still have it but they won't let me run it at the nostalga drags, they said it goes too fast.

  20. Me and a buddy went to pick up a Porshe 911 Turbo in Minnesota and we hit 175 before deciding to back off. Only because there were 2 semis passing each other about a mile or so ahead of us. Afew months later we delivered it to Chicago and was running about 150 past a trooper sitting on a bridge overhead. My guess he wasn't looking at the moment! Funning thing is the car still wanted to run at 175 so who knows what the top was.

I've been 127 mph in the 1/8 mile, 165 in the 1/4, both on my 1972 Ironhead Sportster nostalgia fuel bike.

I did an 823 mile "observed trial*" in 10 hours flat in a 1974 Mercury Capri, a 957 mile "observed trial*" in 10.25 hours in a 1995 Continental, a 260 mile "observed trial*" in 2.4 hours in a 1995 Continental, and lastly and best, while being paced by a Z06 vette, a 180 mile "observed trial*" in 1.47 hours in a 1995 Continental.

Bear in mind that those times include fuel stops and at least two brief interviews with the "observation staff"

Damn I loved those two cars

    * "Observed trial" clearly stating that these runs were done on a closed track with no innocent civilians put at risk. Because obviously, driving like that on public roads is not only dangerous but extremely illegal.

I blew up my first car, a '71 Buick GS at 115. I threw a rod and locked up both tires, what a ride. I had my '57 Chevy at 120 and a little more. I also rode in a guy's Cobra replica at 120.

124 in my '74 Duster small block drag car and 145 in my brother's 2009 Z06 Corvette......the 'Vette had a lot more in it, but I prefer to 'speed' on the track.

  24. Did 125 in a 1973 Olds 98 when I was a kid, let off when it felt like the front end was starting to lift.

I did 121mph in my '67 Camaro RS when I was 16, (stupid kids) and later when I was around 19 I did 143mph in my Convertible BMW with the top down with 5 people in the car and only 4 seat belts! again..........STUPID KIDS ! I guess I got the need for speed out of my system early cause I've never been that fast since. I'm more into the look of the cars now and not how fast they can go.

about 120 in a 96 Chevy full-size conversion van. went to a brand new straight stretch of fine German interstate (aka the Autobahn) and hit the gas. at 120 I felt like I was flying (shit I might've just been). Kept that speed for about a minute then decided I wanted to live so I slowed down.
most fun, althought not super fast: about 75 in a 1967 Citroen 2CV. there is nothing in the US to compare this to. I mean, 150 in a Geo Tracker is nowhere close to the excitement this was

My introduction to speed came when I was seven years old riding in my uncle's new '55 Ford Crown Victoria. 110 MPH on a Sunday morning down a tree lined parkway inside the city limits will give a kid a real rush.

Then there was the night in 1966 I was a pasenger in a friends '62 Galaxie 500XL conv. It had a 406 tri-power. Up on I-64 headed west on the way back from Lexington we decided to see what it would do on top end. 120 on the speedometer was 4800 on his tach. At 5500 he decided to quit but it was still pulling strong. I figured it out later that we quit at 142 MPH.

But the fastest was in a '68 Dodge Coronet RT with a 440 4-speed. All six of us in the car saw 150 on the speedometer twice that night.

As far as my own rides, I watched the needle drop out of sight several times on my '63 406 boxtop Galaxie. All these adventures were in the '60's. I'm not sure if I would want to be young again...yeah I would but only if it could be done knowing what I know now.
