On this day November 11, I would like to thank all vets around the world for their service and their sacrifices. So many fine people who are willing to give all and those who have.
A very big thanks to our Military current and past. Keep up the good work and R.I.P. to the ones who have passed.
A big thank you to all who have served and to all who do now. And to my nephew who is a newly minted Marine, Happy Birthday (to him and the Corps).
Here in Canada it is Remembrance Day, a day to pay respects to those who came before us and those who serve now. Thank you to all Veterans, past and present, who have paid the ultimate sacrifice so that I can sit on my lazy ass and surf the HAMB daily, today I will remember my great Uncle Allan Anderson, who was a tail gunner in a Lancaster bomber serving one full tour and then losing his life on his second as a part of the 166th Pathfinders squadron. Thank you. "Heroes From Our Past" And so the story's told of a hearty group of men it's a tale of their triumphs and their woes. Be it raids and melees ancient or the modern worker's struggle that inspires men to stand up for their rights. And should we fall down by the wayside in this ever-changing world we can look back to these heroes of our past. With their staunch determination and ferocious iron will, no tyranny would quell them in their task. It's an age-old situation with an ever-present message: that time and tide waiteth for no man. So without fear of confrontation of the consequence of outcome, it's for freedom and for happiness they toiled. An in looking to the future, we can see a better place where we can shake the yoke of tyranny for all. It's been paved by generations who have gone now to their rest. It's just remembrance of their dignity we ask. So come on rally round this brave and valiant cause with tradition, pride, and honor at its core. With swords drawn to defend stood these noble-hearted men fág an bealach, clear the way, me boys!! Under perilous conditions with small hope of success they left behind the lives that they once led and by virtue of their fortitude and single-minded strength they cleared the way for the people of today so when we think back to our ancestors respectfully we hark and thank the men whose struggle broke the chain it's a long road up ahead of us let's forge on while we're strong and leave our mark of honor once again So the story has been told and it comes now to an end. It's setting any era, any land. When abusive tyrants force the hands of matters great or small, it inpires men to stand up for their rights.
I would also like to make a heart felt thanks to all the vets on this board and elsewhere in the world. THANK YOU!

At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the stores PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. Terry was impressed with the stores leadership role in adopting the Legions two minutes of silence initiative. He felt that the stores contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable. When eleven oclock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the two minutes of silence to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect. Terrys anger towards the father for trying to engage the stores clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, A Pittance of Time. Terry later recorded A Pittance of Time and included it on his full-length music CD, The Power of the Dream. Why A Veteran Looks Down When you say “thank you” to a vet and he looks down, It’s not that he doesn’t appreciate your accolade, He’s just passing it on to buddies you can’t see – Those who paid a much higher price than he. He did his duty and was glad to serve but now he’s home And gives his thanks to others who gave so much more Those who gave their life are at the top of everyone’s list – Vets know it as “The Ultimate Price of Victory.” But those who lost an arm or leg Feel indebted to those who are blind Who feel they got off lighter Than ones who were paralyzed But those are glad to still be alive And offer their thanks to those who died. I'm glad that Old-Soul mentioned that Canadians call their day to honor veterans past and present, Remembrance Day. I was just watching Jeopardy while cruising the HAMB, and was surprised to see that three U.S. university students that know a whole hell of alot more stuff than I do, did not know that the equivalent of Veterans Day in the US is called Remembrance Day in Canada. I work in the press and attended a Remembrance Day service today. I photographed a very impressive set of medals on the chest of an older man in uniform in the crowd. When I approached him after the ceremoney to get his details, he was very proud that I noticed his medals and that I wanted to photograph them for the newspaper. Tears immediately started streaming down his face as he told me about fighting all over Europe in World War II with the Cape Breton Highlanders. No matter how many of these ceremonies I cover, I'm always blown away and deeply touched by the stories I hear and the men and women I meet who have risked it all to preserve our loving and peaceful way of life. I also realized how much it means to these people to be acknowledged for their sacrifice...face to face...by a complete stranger who truly appreciates their courage. So please, when you see a vet, no matter if it's Veterans Day/Remembrance Day or any other day of the week....shake their hand and say thankyou! -Steve
