US Army 66-68, 2&3rd Arty, 3rd Armor Div.. Had it easy compared to brother, US Marines 67-70 ruff time in Vietnam 68-69. Thanks to all who served, in peace and war times. Men and women of this country always step up when in counts. Muscle cars in the 60's and 70's, hot rods 70's till ???. My Dad always amazed me, everyone came to him to fix their problems and mistakes, he would have loved this site, he taught me alot.

Back in the mid-80s, I worked at a Chrysler dealer in Springfield, IL. The owner had several dealerships scattered around, and had a Bell Ranger III (civilian Huey) to fly around to them. Whenever it was parked at our dealership, I would come out of work and stare at it, but could never figure out why. The service mgr asked me about it one day, told him there was something strange about it, but I couldn't figure out what.

One day I got off work, and on my way across the parking lot, it hit me what was weird about his Ranger III. I stopped dead, and my mouth fell open. The service mgr just happened to be walking up behind me, and asked me what was wrong. I told him I had just figured out what was so strange about the owners chopper. IT HAS DOORS ON IT!

He fell on the ground laughing.

    True story!

Army 1966-1968, served in Germany, was fortunate--was married and my wife and first born were able to live with me out on the "economy". My wife cried when she saw the apartment, there were several different wallpapers in the living room, used army blankets to cover the furniture. That said, it beat by far sleeping in the jungle and getting shot at. Military service opened up opportunities later that made my life considerably better incluing the GI Bill that helped me finish college.

I am proud of the young people that serve now (including especially a nephew--Marine-- that will be doing a second trip to a combat zone, this time Afganistan) and try to thank each vet I meet for their service.

  4. USN AMS2 67-71, USNR CMI 79-88 On active duty I worked on the Douglas A3B. It was called the whale . I was in VAH-123 NAS Whidby Island Wash., VAQ-131 NAS Alameda, USS John F. Kennedy, VAQ-130 NAS Alameda.

So, here we are again. November 11th. Veterans Day. And just a friendly reminder to thank those in your family, friends and co-workers who have served or are serving our great Nation. Ensuring or having ensured our Freedoms are in place and well protected. As well as defending those who would be oppressed around the world.

A little history about Veterans Day:

    http://www.military.com/veterans-day/history-of-veterans-day.htm

Happy Veterans Day to everyone here on the board. I'm going if anyone is interested in grabbing a drink and telling lies, PM me and we'll select a location. Pappy and I usually get together. I think it would be fun if more of us could. I'll be at the Lake Ellyn in Glen Ellyn at 1000 hrs.

I won't be on the internet on Thursday. It's my Shomer Shabbas. Being the boss has its benefits. Two of us are Vets, and neither will be at work on the 11th. :D

Was sent this today, hope it helps someone. (this list is so long, had to post it in 3 parts to get it to fit)

US MIL VETERAN'S AFFAIRS CONTACT INFORMATION

Comment: Someone has gone to a lot of trouble. If this helps one person, then it was worthwhile. Pass it along to family and friends who have served and say thank you.

Below are web-sites that provide information on Veterans benefits and how to file/ask for them. Accordingly, there are many sites that explain how to obtain books, military/medical records, information and how to appeal a denied claim with the VA. Please pass this information on to every Veteran you know. Nearly 100% of this information is free and available for all veterans, the only catch is: you have to ask for it, because they won't tell you about a specific benefit unless you ask for it. You need to know what questions to ask so the right doors open for you and then be ready to have an advocate who is willing to work with and for you, stay in the process, and press for your rights and your best interests.

Happy Birthday and THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH

  25. I don't even know if there is an Applebee's around here. Oh well, I usually never take advantage of being a Marine anyway. I guess its the thought that I'm no different than anyone else, I just have a different type of job than most. Anyway happy birthday to all of us, and a drink for you, a drink for me, and then one for all 235 years, and I'm sure there are other reasons to have some more.
